Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) US LLC agreed to pay $8 million as part of a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that certain Dodge, Jeep, Ram and Fiat vehicles with 2.4L Tigershark engines suffer an oil consumption defect that causes engine failure.

The settlement benefits current and former owners and lessees of the following vehicles equipped with a 2.4L Tigershark engine:

  • 2015-2017 Chrysler 200
  • 2013-2016 Dodge Dart
  • 2014-2019 Jeep Cherokee manufactured prior to July 2018
  • 2015-2018 Jeep Renegade
  • 2017-2018 Jeep Compass
  • 2015-2018 Ram Promaster City
  • 2016-2018 Fiat 500x 

FCA is an automotive manufacturing company. It is a subsidiary of Stellantis, which sells vehicles under brands such as Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Fiat, Ram and more.

According to a class action lawsuit, certain Dodge, Jeep, Ram and Fiat vehicles suffer from an oil consumption defect. When the affected vehicles consume too much oil, the oil pressure in 2.4L Tigershark engines allegedly drops to dangerous levels — causing the vehicles to shut down unexpectedly.

Plaintiffs in the case say they were not sufficiently warned of the issue and, when their engines failed, were forced to pay out of pocket to fix the issue. 

FCA hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to an $8 million lawsuit settlement to resolve these allegations. 

Under the terms of the FCA Tigershark class action lawsuit settlement, class members can receive extended warranty benefits, payments and product improvement benefits.

The extended warranty extends the FCA Powertrain Limited Warranty to seven years or 100,000 miles. This extension covers all parts and labor required to fix the oil consumption defect. 

Product improvements include FCA customer service notifications (CSN W20, CSN W80 and CSN W84) to remedy the oil consumption defect in certain vehicles.

All class members covered under CSN W80 are eligible to have an oil consumption test performed for free. If this test shows a significant defect, FCA will replace the vehicle’s engine long block.

Class Members whose vehicles are covered by CSN W80 and whose engine long blocks are replaced will automatically receive a $340 payment.

Class members may be eligible for additional cash payments under the terms of the FCA settlement.

Class members who paid for repairs related to the oil consumption defect can receive reimbursement for these repairs. Reimbursements are also available for repair-related transportation costs such as rental cars and towing services. Exact payments will vary.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Oct. 21, 2022.

The final approval hearing for the FCA Tigershark lawsuit settlement is scheduled for Dec. 1, 2022.

Class members who do not submit a claim will be able to receive extended warranty benefits and engine long block replacement payments.

In order to receive certain other benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by March 1, 2023.

Who’s Eligible

The settlement benefits current and former owners and lessees of the following vehicles equipped with a 2.4L Tigershark engine: 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, 2013-2016 Dodge Dart, 2014-2019 Jeep Cherokee manufactured prior to July 2018, 2015-2018 Jeep Renegade, 2017-2018 Jeep Compass, 2015-2018 Ram Promaster City and 2016-2018 Fiat 500x vehicles.

You must include with the claim form a copy of a receipt and/or other documents showing:

  • the amount(s) of the expense(s) for which you are seeking reimbursement (i.e., expenses for a rental car and/or towing service);
  • the date when you paid for the rental car and/or towing service;
    the amount paid (e.g. receipt, credit card statement, bank statement); and
  • the nature of the corresponding Qualifying Repair (that occurred within 24 hours of incurring any rental car and/or towing service expenses claimed)

    Please call me with my claim number i have all the repairs that I have paid for out of pocket for the unusual oil condition and the oil sensor not resetting Since 2021 up until the issue couldnt be resolved & my Jeep is now shut down.

    I’ve had the same issues described in this class action lawsuit continuously called Mopar about it so many times until finally they replace my engine. It took them such a long time to figure out what the problem was at one point they misdiagnosed me and told me that I needed a new battery after my car stalled on the highway out of nowhere turned out there was no oil inside. No indication that there was low engine no codes. It just stopped on it oWn. After months and months, they finally figured out that it was a oil consumption and because of that my engine was replaced, but it cost me money out of pocket until the situation was fixed.

    I purchased a 2018 Jeep Compass 10/18/2021 and in October 2022 had no idea it started burning oil until 11/4/2022 emergency brake came on and vehicle stopped running. Took it to my mechanic he said it had no oil even though I had oil change at prior 3,000 miles. He did an oil change 11/4/2022 and 786 miles later on 11/17/2022 had oil checked was already low on oil had to have oil added. This Jeep Compass burning oil can now only drive a few hundred miles and then requires oil to be added. Please add me to this class action lawsuit, I did not receive any class action notification by mail.

    I received the notice yesterday and don’t know if I have a claim because I had no repairs done. However the car has been on 7 recalls since I bought it. Had the recalls done. Do we still get some money from the lawsuit. The notice is too confusing.

    I have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee that also loses oil. No oil light comes on. This is the first vehicle no warning light shows up. The only reason I knew oil was low because going around corners the car would dig and the car stalled. Shouldn’t the factories put out a recall on all of these vehicles to repair them before damage happens and we have to pay for it? I didn’t know about this law suit. Unfortunately I can’t do anything about it.

    When Will people be reimbursed if they submitted the claim along with the proper documentation I paid almost 4 grand total with car rentals to get the engine fixed.

    Had a 2018 Jeep compass purchased brand new the engine and transmission had to be replaced at 18,000 miles had to have multiple oil consumption testing which is so annoying with a brand new vehicle eventually traded for a 2022 Jeep compass brand new at 9,000 miles started cutting off turns out same issues as the 2018 oil at a certain level in their words will cause vehicle to stall luckily the 4 times in a week that it happened no one was behind me I had already made an appointment after the first stall and they were over booked on appointments like 2 weeks so the day of my appointment my Jeep stalled while turning a corner also my Start/Stop warning light came on and service shifter at 8,000 miles this is definitely my last Jeep/Chrysler vehicle pure bad luck I know people with year 2000 vehicles with 105,000 miles that have never had issues and their vehicle is more quiet than my 2022

      I got the card but misplaced it as well!! My engine blew 2014 Jeep grand Cherokee with 66k miles always maintained! Jeep a terrible company for pushing these vex holes with defective engines I’ll never support this company again
