Electrolux Frigidaire

Owners of certain front-loading clothes washers made by Electrolux can now claim cash payments, rebates or reimbursements from a class action settlement.

The settlement benefits persons who acquired certain Electrolux-made washers under the Electrolux, Frigidaire, Crosley, White-Westinghouse, or Kenmore brands between Jan. 1, 2004 and Dec. 31, 2011.

This settlement resolves two Electrolux class action lawsuits filed by purchasers in Georgia and Florida. In the earlier claim from 2008, plaintiffs Robert Brown and Michael Vogler alleged their Frigidaire-branded washers, manufactured by defendant Electrolux, have a design flaw that allowed water to collect in the gasket, fostering the development of mold and mildew.

Plaintiffs Wendy and Nicholas Grasso filed the second Electrolux class action lawsuit in January 2015 over roughly the same claims. The Grassos say their washer allows mold and mildew to grow inside it, creating a nasty smell that permeates the clothes in the washer and spreads throughout their home.

The Grassos allege Electrolux refused to remedy the problem under the washer’s warranty because the warranty supposedly does not cover mold. Electrolux reportedly told them to leave the washer door open and wipe the gasket, but that still didn’t fix the problem, the couple claims.

Though Electrolux continues to deny the plaintiffs’ claims, the company agreed to a class action settlement by October 2017. Under terms of the Electrolux class action settlement, Class Members who experienced mold or mildew problems with their washers may claim either a $50 payment, a rebate on the purchase of a new Electrolux appliance, or reimbursement for costs incurred dealing with the mold and mildew problem.

Class Members can object to the settlement or exclude themselves from it by submitting a written request no later than Feb. 20, 2018.

Who’s Eligible

Class Members include persons in the U.S. and its territories who, between Jan. 1, 2004 and Dec. 31, 2011 purchased a new Class Washer, acquired one with the purchase or remodel of a home, or received one as a gift.

According to the settlement agreement, Class Washers include “any new and previously unused high-efficiency front-load washing machine manufactured by Electrolux (including 3.1, 3.5, and 4+ platforms) and sold under the Electrolux, Frigidaire, Crosley, White-Westinghouse, or Kenmore brand names.”

Potential Award

Up to $500.

Qualifying Class Members may choose to receive one of the following benefits for each Class Washer they purchased or acquired:

  • A $50 cash payment;
  • A cash rebate worth either 20 percent or five percent of the purchase price of a new Electrolux-manufactured appliance. A full list of the qualifying appliances is available here; or
  • Reimbursement for up to $500 to cover out-of-pocket expenses incurred in addressing mold and mildew issues that were “persistent” – i.e., occurred more than once. Reimbursements for garments and fabric goods damaged due to the mold and mildew issue are limited to $150 out of the total $500 limit.

Class Members who did not experience a mold or mildew issue with their Class Washer are not entitled to the $50 cash payment or the 20 percent rebate.

Proof of Purchase

Class Members claiming reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses for service or replacement of a Class Washer or for damaged garments must include documentation of those expenses with their Claim Form.     I have a frigidare affinity washer and dryer set. I am allergic to mold. The smell is aweful, and my skin itches. I decided to purchase a new set and came across this lawsuit.

    i called the company when the mold started to grow and was told there was no prolem with mold in their washers and nothing could be done. Now that that my washers is older it it was really took over. I have tried ever thing to get the mold problem under control.

    Mold issues on rubber around the washing machine, my soon has been sick with sinus infections and upper respiratory issues, washing machine is less was purchased as a mother’s day gift and was ok until five or six months ago when the mold appeared. Went back to Badcock Furniture but they refused to help with any information.

      I just received an email from them Friday requesting additional information, once I submitted I received a response back stating they are processing checks now

      I emailed them on monday and received and email back today, they let me know my claim was valid and they are still sending out checks. They didnt give me a time line but at least I found out they still had my info. You can check to make sure you claim is still valid by emailing info@flwashersettlement.com

    I have a Frigidaire front loader I purchased in 2014. My clothes began to smell terribly and the machine has had a foul odor too. I then moved to a place that had a washer so I stored mine. When the movers disconnected it yo move it to storage, the odor from the hoses was atrocious. Black, reeking water came out. I have always left the door open when not in use, cleaned repeatedly but to no avail. Hope the company does the right thing here.

      I am, alsowaiting for info on when checks are being mailed out, cannot find any phone #’s to correspond with anyone in the court system, this is outrageous.
