TCA Staff Tidbit: This is the current BIG daddy of consumer lawsuits. Please note, you don’t have to mail in ANY proof of purchase unless you’re claiming your diamond jewelry is worth or purchased more then $10,000. I (Scott) submitted an appraisal of my wife’s engagement and wedding rings along with the claims for the the replacement wedding ring. I should receive thousands. How much are YOU eligible for? Don’t expect a check for a few more months, but expect payment some time in the third quarter. Don’t miss out on this one!
UPDATE 10/16/09: National Jeweler Network states that payments may go out in the Spring. The case and challenges are due to be reviewed by the Court in January.
UPDATE 6/30/09: The Jewelers Vigilance Committee issued a statement and filed a brief supporting the settlement.

DeBeers Diamond Class Action Lawsuit Settlement

The Fairness Hearing was held on April 14, 2008, and the Court approved the Settlement on May 27, 2008. Appeals were subsequently filed contesting final approval of the Settlement. A hearing on these appeals was held on January 28, 2010, at the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia. On July 13, 2010, the appeals court sent the settlement back to a lower court for further consideration. On August 27, 2010, the Court issued an order granting plaintiffs’ request for a rehearing by the entire Court, thereby making the first appellate court decision no longer in effect. The Court heard the appeal again on February 23, 2011, and is expected to issue an order in the next six to ten months.

They only changed the date on their website becuae I had sent an e-mail to them claiming that it hadn;t been updated since September so they sent me one back refering me to the website with the June 3, 2009 date. Nothing changed….I doubt we will ever see a payout

The date of June 3, 2009 has come and gone. I didn’t see any news on the DeBeers site that provides ANY insight into when this might all be over and settled. I am disabled; poor and living on a very fixed income and anything they pay us would help me greatly.

Seems that they have updated the “updated June 3, 2009” date on their website but still no payouts. I have reciepts for my purchases as well and would like to know what appeals are pending and when payout may be.
