VGW Malta Ltd., owner of Chumba Casino and Luckyland Slots, has agreed to pay $11.75 million to end a class action lawsuit claiming the company violated Kentucky gambling laws by selling virtual coins in Luckyland and Chumba Casino slots games.

Class members include all Kentucky residents who spent $5 or more at Chumba Casino or Luckyland Slots within a 24-hour period between March 17, 2017, and March 17, 2022.

Plaintiff Amy Jo Armstead filed the Chumba Casino and Lucklyand Slots class action lawsuit Sept. 7, 2022. Armstead states she played Chumba Casino and Luckyland Slots games, and lost more than $7,000 doing so. In her lawsuit, she argues she and many other people were harmed because VGW Malta violated Kentucky gambling laws designed to protect individuals.

She explains VGW Malta owns and operates virtual casino games through the brands Chumba Casino and Luckyland. Allegedly, the virtual games allow players to use virtual coins to play slot games.

The plaintiff states that while first-time players are given these virtual “gold coins” for free, after the initial play, consumers must pay real money to purchase these coins. Consumers can also reportedly place wagers to win more gold coins.

While the company lures players in with its “free to play” model, the games quickly charge players, according to the plaintiff, meaning they fall under the regulations of Kentucky gambling law.

She asserts that as games of chance are illegal in Kentucky, if gambling players lose money at games of chance in the state, they are entitled to receive their lost money within a certain timeframe. In her Chumba Casino and Luckyland Slots class action lawsuit, Armstead requested that the money she lost at gambling, and the money other similarly affected consumers lost, be returned to them.

VGW Malta has not admitted wrongdoing in response to the claims surrounding the games but has agreed to a settlement to avoid the costs and risks of continued litigation.

Class members will be eligible for a proportional payment of the settlement amount, allocated based on how much money they lost from the settlement. These amounts will be determined after attorney fees and costs as well as class representative payments have been allocated.

A payment estimator is available on the settlement website.

Class members who wish to object to or exclude themselves from the VGW Malta Chumba Casino and Luckyland Slots class action lawsuit settlement must do so by Dec. 15, 2022.

A final fairness hearing is scheduled for Jan. 9, 2023.

To receive class action settlement benefits, class members must file a valid claim by March 6, 2023.

If you spent $7000 dollars in a short period of time gambling on an app, you need help. Now the holidays are here and everyone wants to come up. Gambling is an addiction just like any other drug but if you know your the type of person that had no self control don’t do it. Me myself have lost but I also have won more than what I put in, it’s a chance you take.

    1. Mack says:

I understand where ur coming from and self control is important when it comes to gambling. Especially on the internet. And I as well need 2 practice it alot more… But please understand this. I won 14,000 on funzpoiintz. Com like a year and a half ago… B4 that I never had a gambling problem .. I didn’t gamble because my father would gamble his check away at the casino and then come home and take my mothers check and go and lose that also.. so long story short we were always shortbon bills and hungry as a kid it was sumthing I never wanted n my life as an adult… Well before I won that 14000.. I never gambled.. until 1 day I seen a friend win $1000 on funzpoiintz … And as I seen how easily he won it with 10$ I said wtf.. he made it look so easy… So curiosity killd the cat and I made an account within the 1st week of playing I spent maybe 60$ and won $1200. And cashd out sayn ook I’m gonna take my winnings n run with it… Then after buying sum shoes and clothes and taking my gf out shopping as well I had about 200 left… So curiosity killd the cat agon and I’d say 10 days land maybe 400 later… I did it again and won 2000… And i was shocked and cashdout.. the very next day hit another 2000… And the next day 2000 more and the next day another 2000… It didn’t stop there.. for 7 days strait I won $2000 a day like it was nothing…. So with only being able 2 cashout 2000 a day and by the next morning it be deposited into your bank.. now at this point I’m thinkn in my head it must be sum kind of glitch in my favor or sumthing.. because it’s kinda unheard of 2 win like that.. I was showing friends like wanna bet I cant hit on 3 spins… And I would hit… 1time in q soon I hit for $800…now on the 8th day after I spent like 100 and didn’t hit I was kinda shockd I hadn’t hit again.. I havnt won more than 5 dollars on there since lol. I don’t even play on the site anymore.. but long story short.. it’s kinda hard to have self control when ur dealing with gambling because unlike drugs and alot of other addictions gambling is fueled by greed and the power of the mighty dollar… Drug addiction is not fueled by greed and the change of gaining any monetary value… Addiction 2 selling drugs yes.. but not using.. trust me I know both of those addictions very well … I tell everybody that questions me about gambling or ask me how I won. Or how it felt or wat I did with the lil money I won.. especially when they say I was lucky and they wish they could win like that… My reply will always be I wish I woukd have never won the money i won at all .. it was the worst thing that ever could have happened 2 me in my life and if I could take it back I’d never have even tried the time I won the first 1200… A gambling addiction is worse than any drug addiction in the world .. again trust me. Iv been thru it all….. By far gambling is the worst because it involves greed and the hunger for more…. Well . Thanks for reading if anybody decided to waste 10 minutes of their day

      1. Ej says:

I completely 100% agree with you about EVERYTHING you just said. I feel the exact same way.

      2. Heather says:

        Great comment!

      3. Superstaar says:

Yes but it’s the only addictions that pays really well

      4. ashley s holman says:

        This is it!!!!

    2. Dustin says:

$7000, ha!!! When I started playing chumba I came up $28000 and got one of those big checks and all. Unfortunately by the time I got the check I blew it all back lol. Since then, a little over 18 months ago I have easily lost 100k at chumba mainly…a few grand of that is at pulsz and luckyland. “No self control”…prime example right here. I can’t even touch black jack at chumba anymore…90% of the hands I lose as I watch the dealer pop 21 3 out of 5 hands and the other two out of five its a 20 and a seldom bust if my bet is low. Lmao.

  2. Shekita clemons says:

The first time I played I won $527, but I couldn’t cash out because I didn’t verify my information like they asked me to, it took me awhile to get verified but I did. They emailed me told me I was approved from then on I was able to redeem my winnings. At first my bank contacted me about me about fraudulent activities because the company is international, understand, so I had to approve it, after that I had no problems adding or redeeming from my account.
From the start they tell you cannot have more than one account also if it had been the other way around there would not have been one complaint, it is called Gambling.

  3. Gary Young says:

What are the guidelines for Texas

    1. Wilma Gentry says:

It is assumed that you understand that’s it’s under a “sweepstakes” type of game. That they offer you chances at free play. It’s in their terms and conditions. It’s a loophole they are clinging to but it’s flimsy. Since they have businesses that are based in Texas that you have to send them funds through cash app prior to being able to play the game. They also upped the loophole by adding a bonus wheel on some platforms that give you a few cents to a couple dollars to play, it’s rare to get more than the good luck landing spot. Other platforms that are affiliated with Chumba casino are the fire kirin games. I don’t know about all, just a couple businesses that are out of Texas. They have the sliding win scale that they can move based on the frequency of your deposits the more you deposit the lower your win percentage is. You can read that in the terms and conditions as well.

They actually are not concerned about it coming back on them since they are a “sweepstakes” and not a gambling company. On paper it looks that way but they don’t give free bonuses – it’s a bonus match one time a week on a specific day no more than $20 after you send them the funds.

      Hope this helps.

  4. Catty says:

It’s called gambling and you take your chances if you choose to play. Its insane that the lawsuit wasn’t thrown out.

    1. T. Yang says:

Hey wassup with all this commotion with the lawsuits???? How come we don’t get that in MINNESOTA??? I know a whole groups of people who also play we me on Luckylandslots and Chumba never won ONCE and it’s been taking all of our mony too so why don’t we get any qualifications law suits around here????

      1. Stacie Moist says:

        Alabama for that matter too

        1. melissa hobden says:

      2. JR says:

        T. Yang you and a whole bunch of other people haven’t won I’m from Minnesota and I win and lose all the time chumba is one of the best sweep coin casinos hands down!!!!

Lmao. Let me know if minnesota is ever included cuz like I said since my “big win” in the beginning I have steadily lost over 100k easily chasing another big check and losing terribly lol.

    2. Lynn C Nelson says:

Read the fine print… These on line casinos have self exempt or you can set limit on what you spend… It s called GAMBLING, “”it is what it is””

  5. Deniece Fridy says:

I have been playing at Chumba Casino and LuckyLand since 2019. And they both have been Great. This person doing the lawsuit is just mad cause she doesn’t. Those casinos do allow you to play for free. Everyday actually they give us coins. EVERYDAY. They don’t skip a beat. I hope they don’t let this one person ruin it for everyone else. Cause I love playing.

    1. Cody ferraro says:

Agreed how ever I won $980.00 and they wouldn’t pay out the money I won and then closed my account. So they are shoddy.

      1. JR says:

Yeah bet you didn’t follow there email instructions to get verified or respond to them when they asked you some other information look in your email bet its still there anyone want to take that bet lol

        1. kenia Jones says:

Yes I agree. If you read the terms and provide all info. asked for there is not any problems. Also if you live in a state that doesn’t allow or has restrictions on gambling. Ict should be that adults responsibility to know the laws that apply to them. ( They should be the one to get fined lol.) Just a bunch of people looking for a way to scam and get a free handout. They played the game chose to pay to play when they could have played free everyday if they wanted to with the daily free coins.

          1. Brandon Elting says:

Its not Gambling thats why they issue sweeps coins and can get away with it because it SWEEPPSTAKES just like bingo can get away with it in tx

    2. jennifer brown says:

I totally agree. I have won at least $100 more than once and redeemed my winnings everytime from Chumba. I love Chumba and Luckyland is ok. I hope no one messes it up for us either.

      1. jennifer brown says:

I won off of my daily $1.00 bonus too, by the way.

    3. Sumiko Perez-Godinez says:

HOPE YOU ADD ARIZONA I HAVE LOST OVER 10K TO CHUMBA AND LUCKY LAND CASINO THEY ARE JUST HORRIBLE THEY ARE WORSE THEN A REAL CASINO..

  6. Adi says:

It’s gambling and you are going to lose whenever you choose to gamble anywhere. Maybe I don’t understand the full story but it sounds like the plaintiff is upset they got addicted and lost and is not wanting to take personal responsibility for that.

With that said, Chumba does use the “sweepstakes” loophole to operate under the official casino radar and I don’t think that should be messed with unless they are being malicious. Myself and thousands of others participate in the free entries they legally must provide as a sweepstakes and make a consistent monthly profit. Chumba has been supplementing my income for almost 3 years. There are thousands of us that use Chumba sweepstakes credits to make ends meet or just make some fun side money and I hope this lady didn’t just ruin it for all of us. However, looking at the date of this incident and the date they tightened up the sweepstakes credits last month makes me think she indeed did.

    1. Larry says:

Ok so what I live in Texas and it’s a no gambling state I play daily I have won off my 1$ a day credit they give everyone and I’m on SSDI fixed income it has payed bills I wouldn’t have been able to buy with that said I have lost a lot as well. So I guess I should jump on the wagon and file a claim too SMFH you lost shouldn’t have played if you can’t afford or lose it period… Hopefully this leech didn’t just screw me out of playing now. This is the problem with our society now adays nobody wants to take credibility for what they do and thinks everybody’s entitled to something. I mean come on let’s face it we’re adults we know gambling was a factor of not winning most of the time it is fun and relaxing to me and I don’t think one person that lost a large amount of money per se should run it for all of us.

    2. Mike t says:

That’s Right chumba and lucky land both pay well

      1. Mike t says:

        I won over 12 thousand

        1. Mike t says:

          And keep winning

  7. Joshua says:

People will do ANYTHING for a fee handout! Seems like this lady is just a lousy broke person looking for handouts! My mom, brother, and sister play this game and haven’t been able to win as much anymore, ALL THANKS TO THIS LOUSY WOMAN WHO WANTS HANDOUTS!!! Gambling is a chance of chance and winning isn’t always in the equation, that’s why it’s called GAMBLING! Not meaning, cry about it when you lose a few bucks then take the company to court for millions of dollars just to get free handouts!!! My family enjoys Chumba Casino and been playing them for years and never had a problem with them! Some people are just greedy as all hell and will wake up one day in hell when they die because of their pure greediness against others!!!!
Also, Kentucky sounds like a lousy state as well for letting this happen!
All I can say is… BOO HOO CHICK!

    1. Diane says:

I was going to say the same thing! I’ve played and lost money. Did win over 1,400 one time but lost more than that haha she lost and wanted her money back. Scummy person ruining it for everyone. Bet if she won 7k she wouldn’t be call it illegal.

    2. Adi says:

You are so right. People will go so far to convince themselves their actions were not their fault.

      1. Andrea Bioletto says:

        Totally agree 1000%! Well said!

        1. Erika says:

I used to play luckyland and chumba but got kicked off cause my bank thought it was fraud and got the money back that I put in that was with luckyland and then chumba kicked me off cause you can’t play both of them it has to be one or the other which sucked cause I really loved playing their games.. so I’m pretty pissed at them.

    3. Tonya says:

I think you need to be a little more respectful NONE OF YOU know this ladies situation BACK OFF!!!!

    4. Lamond hammons says:

Chumba is a scam they made unauthorized charges on my credit cards without me knowing and acting like they dont know anything about it over 40,000

  8. Laurence McCall says:

I love luckyland’s casino and my wife plays chumba casino and yes we have lost money but our odds have been in our favor and we have won a lot of money over the last 2 years and are very thankful to the ethics and morals that lucky lands and chumba casino possess. They do exactly what they say they’re going to do and I have never had any issues with them they’re great companies and if you decide to gamble that’s your decision and you should study the risk and only gamble what you can afford. Lawrence McCall.

    1. Valerie Herrera says:

I play very frequently, you can pretty much say everyday on Luckyland Slots, Chumba Casino, as well as a few others and have won more than a couple of times! I didn’t have a problem getting my money either, the one that doesn’t seem to want to pay me is Sweepslots! It’s only $21.00 too! They ignore my support tickets and when they do answer it’s the same repeated answer that they will be getting in touch with me but I’m still waiting! As for Luckyland and Chumba I enjoy playing and will continue to do so they are very fair to me in my eyes and not just trying to rip people off like some others. Me and a few others gamble online daily and know which ones really pay out and which don’t. We have all won more than once on Luckyland and Chumba.

      1. Jamie Rawlins says:

        Scammed me

        1. Erika Orenday says:

They kicked me off cause my bank thought it was fraud that was with luckyland and then chumba kicked me off cause of what happened with luckyland and chumba also told me that I can’t play on both.

  9. Victoria Goad says:

    Same here in Oklahoma.

  10. Tosha Jarstad says:

    Omg ridiculous
