Consumers who purchased Charmin Freshmates Flushable Wipes in the past seven years, could get cash from a class action settlement.
Several consumers lodged class action lawsuits against Procter & Gamble alleging their wet wipe type toilet product, Charmin Freshmates, caused clogs and other plumbing problems.
The plaintiffs contended that the product was falsely advertised as being “flushable” and “septic safe,” but led to major toilet issues and, for some, expensive plumbing bills.
The Charmin Freshmates class action states that the flushable wipes have never been suitable for flushing as they “clog and damage plumbing pipes, fail to properly break down in septic tanks, damage septic pumps, catch on screens in municipal sewage lines and must be removed from the sewer system for disposal in landfills, and damage municipal sewage lines and pumps, often due to the proclivity of the wipes to tangle with each other, tree branches, rocks, and other non-flushable items, and form large masses or ropes.”
In addition, the Charmin class action lawsuit claimed that the tiny disclaimer that informs consumers to only flush one or two wipes at a time is still misleading because the wipes do not break down like toilet paper and therefore cause plumbing damage.
The Charmin flushable wipes class action alleges that consumers are financially injured by a minimum of a few hundred dollars when they have to hire a plumber to unclog sewer lines.
Under the terms of the Charmin flushable wipes class action settlement, those who purchased Charmin Freshmates Flushable Wipes between April 6, 2011 and Nov. 26, 2018 can file a claim.
Class Members who can submit proof of purchase can receive a payout of up to $30. Those without proof of purchase can claim up to seven purchases. Class Members will receive a payout of $.60 per package.
Class Members include consumers nationwide, except for those in New York.
Procter & Gamble as also agreed to make labeling changes per the Charmin flushable wipes class action settlement, along with paying $2.15 million in attorneys’ fees and between $1,000 and $5,000 in plaintiffs’ awards.
The deadline to file a claim is Feb. 28, 2019. Class Members who want to object to or exclude themselves from the class action settlement must do so by the same date.
The final hearing is scheduled for March 28, 2019.

Shame on P&G for advertising flushable wipes at all!! I have lost alot of respect for that company due to their suspicious marketing tactics and misleading information. I work for a plumbing company and we never ever recommend flushing wipes down the drains no matter what the company claims. Consumers should not be constantly misled like this!!
Absolutely ridiculous that anyone would save receipts. I have a grinder pump in my basement which just cost me $1800.00 to fix due to the charmin wipes!!!! My grinder pump stopped working on 11/22/18 and there was a BLOCK of these wipes which caused it to break!!!!! Seriously! I don’t have my receipts! But I sure do have the bill from the repair AND a picture of the block of “flushable” wipes! Sixty cents! Ridiculous!!!
Class members do have the option of either objecting to or opting out of the settlement.
cannot get claim form to work
You can contact the settlement administrator with any questions about the claim submission process: https://secureforms.heffler.com/Forms/259/Contact/65548945-6ddd-4f38-bf0f-311b7d361e40. Please note that there is also a claim form on the settlement website that can be printed and mailed.
What about plumbing bills due to the clogging issue? I had to pay a plumber to clean out our pipes due to clogging caused by the “flushable” wipes. I do have the receipt from purchasing the product and the plumbing bill.
This particular settlement does not include plumbing costs. You can contact class counsel with your questions. Counsel is listed in this article and on the settlement website and can be Googled for contact information.

I thought you had to be 18 to be on this site. Some of you act like you’re still in middle school.
I guess I just don’t understand why someone chooses to act like a donkey. Not everyone is as tech savvy as others. If their comments bother you to the point where you are compelled to comment something intended to belittle another, perhaps you should learn this awesome thing called empathy. If that’s not for you, maybe just keep scrolling. It’s really not that hard to be nice people.

????
Wow. I’m seriously shocked at all of the “supposedly” adult people acting like they are still in middle school with comments intended to belittle others. There’s a glitch with the submission form and most of the comments are from people asking because of that. Some of them may be elderly.
Not all people are as tech savvy as others. How about instead of acting like a donkey, you just try helping…or here’s a novel idea, don’t say anything at all if you can’t just be nice.
