Details: Career Education Corporation has reached a $20 million class action lawsuit settlement over allegations it sent unsolicited text message ads to consumers without their consent. If you received an unwanted text from Career Education, you may be entitled to receive up to $200 from the class action settlement.

The Career Education text settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit, entitled Rojas v. Career Education Corporation, that alleges the education services company violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) by sending unsolicited text message advertisements to consumers without receiving explicit consent to do so.

Career Education Corp. denies any wrongdoing, but has agreed to establish a $20 million class action lawsuit settlement fund to pay out Class Members in order to resolve the litigation.

Class Members of the Career Education text class action settlement include anyone in the United States who, on August 27, 2008, was sent the following text messages for Career Education Corporation:

Under the class action lawsuit settlement agreement, Career Education has agreed not to send text messages to consumers without their prior express consent. It also agreed to pay Class Members up to $200 each if they submit a claim form by December 7, 2012.

The amount of your exact payment from the Career Education text class action settlement cannot be calculated at this time because it will depend on the total number of valid claims that are filed. You can expect to receive your class action settlement check within 60-90 days after the settlement has been finally approved and/or after any appeals have been resolved. A Final Fairness Hearing is scheduled for October 23, 2012.

    I called today. They said they are looking into it. Something about 2700 checks went out. If they have extra money from uncashed checks. Not sure what they are talking about.

    Just called a representative told me that if I had not received a distribution in the mail that I would not be receiving a check. This is BS.

    Called today and was told they were still researching the claim and someone will call me back. I think they are full you know what, they keep saying they mailed out 2,704 checks. Yeah I know that did I get one, someone will call you back and I told the gentlemen that was a week ago and no one has called me back yet. I just hung up on them.
