Best Buy TCPA settlement

Best Buy Stores LP has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging it made unlawful auto-dialed telephone calls to consumers without their consent. If you received a telephone call on behalf of Best Buy regarding the Best Buy Reward Zone certificates or go digital policy between Oct. 8, 2007 and Nov. 30, 2011, you could be eligible for benefits from the class action settlement.

The Best Buy class action lawsuit alleged that Best Buy violated Washington law by making telephone calls to Washington residents regarding its Reward Zone certificate reminders or go digital policy by using an automatic dialer. The class action lawsuit also alleged that Best Buy violated federal law by placing phone calls relating to the go digital policy to non-Washington residents even after they had requested not to be called.

Best Buy denies any wrongdoing but agreed to settle the class action lawsuit to avoid the expense and inconvenience of ongoing litigation.

Who’s Eligible

Class Members of the Best Buy automated phone call class action settlement include:

(1)    Washington Class: Individuals who had Washington State area codes and received a telephone call from (or on behalf of) Best Buy regarding Best Buy’s Reward Zone certificate reminders or its go digital policy placed using an automated dialer and artificial or pre-recorded voice between Oct. 8, 2007 and Nov. 30, 2011.

(2)    National Class: Individuals who did not have a Washington State area code and received a telephone call from (or on behalf of) Best Buy regarding Best Buy’s Reward Zone go digital policy between Oct. 8, 2007 and Nov. 30, 2011, after making a request to Best Buy not to be called. (If you asked the Federal Trade Commission or the Federal Commerce Commission to add you to the National Do-Not-Call List but did not ask Best Buy to stop calling, you are not a member of the National Class.)

$50-$100 per call. Washington Class Members may make claims for up to three telephone calls, while National Class Members may claim only one call.

I just checked the automated phone system and it said that checks were distrubuted November 25th, 2014. If that is true, and the 27th being Tanksgiving, no mail, then I suppose we funds will start arriving anywhwere between today, Friday, on out until the end of next week. We’ll see?

Hello, I was also awarded a 700+ (can’t remember the exact amount) in this suit. I received some paperwork to fill out for taxes and made sure that went out in plenty of time to get to them by the date they requested. From all I have read in the court documents, the distribution should have happened. This being in limbo is disconcerting. I too would like to know what is going on?

  6. Corrine says:

Hello, I was awarded a 780.00 claim in this suit. I was sent a Best Buy version of a W-9 to fill out which I did. That has been a month and a half at least. I am just curious. When will funds be sent out to claimants?

    Thank you.
