Apple agreed to a $1.8 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that it misrepresented the security and value of its gift cards that were later redeemed by unauthorized third parties.
The Apple settlement benefits consumers who purchased eligible gift cards between March 2018 and July 2020 whose gift cards were redeemed by an unknown third party before the consumers could redeem them and who were not offered a refund or replacement.
The settlement also benefits a subclass of the same consumers from California who purchased gift cards in California between May 2017 and February 2018, and whose gift cards were redeemed by an unknown third party before the consumers could redeem them and who were not offered a refund or replacement.
Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claim Apple failed to secure its gift cards, causing consumers to lose the value of these cards when unauthorized third parties redeemed them before the authorized customer was able to. Consumers argue that Apple misrepresented the value and security of its gift cards by failing to warn customers that their gift cards could be stolen.
Apple gift cards can be used to purchase Apple products, apps, music and other products through Apple’s various online stores.
Apple hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $1.8 million settlement to resolve the gift card class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive up to a 100% refund of their purchased Apple gift card values. If the number of claims exceeds the net settlement fund, the payments will be reduced proportionately.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Jan. 8, 2024.
The final approval hearing for the Apple gift card class action lawsuit settlement is scheduled for Jan. 17, 2024.
In order to receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Jan. 17, 2024.

I send nearly $200 of apple gift card to my son that I purchased through my device when he was needing do by sneakers that were the last in his size and out of stock elsewhere and I was not going to be able to make ir to that store before closing time. Neither of us were using Apple Pay at this time but he told me that retailer did accept apple pay so I ended up sending him an apple gift card only later to learn that was only going to buy apps and in app or game micro transactions which he has no interest in we just needed these shoes%, I was promised a refund after being on the phone for some time That day had to drop more money in Apple Cash and turn it on for my kid. I ended up bouncing my rent check because of this total disaster which happened only because I relied on that money coming back to my account. If I knew I couldn’t rely on what remedy was offered to me I would have Never agreed to allow my son to make a purchase that would put me in the red for remainder of a month having to worry if I’d have enough to afford food on that budget til next payment. I incued late charges and and a fee NSF fees. My question is if I am eligible to join or do thie facts in the case exclude me based on info i provide?
