free credit score scam settlement

The Federal Trade Commission, the State of Illinois and the State of Ohio have reportedly reached a settlement with One Technologies, a company that offered “free” credit scores. If you were charged for MyCreditHealth or ScoreSense credit monitoring, you may be eligible for a refund.

According to the credit score scam lawsuit, One Technologies operated at least 50 websites that purported to offer free credit scores to consumers. These websites included FreeScore360.com, FreeScoreOnline.com, ScoreSense.com, and many others.

When consumers used these websites to access their credit scores, they were automatically enrolled in credit monitoring programs and were charged monthly fees without their consent, according to the FTC lawsuit. Allegedly, One Technologies did not clearly inform consumers that if they failed to cancel their free trial within seven days, they would be billed $29.95 per month.

Under the terms of the settlement, One Technologies will pay $22 million to compensate consumers who were affected by the alleged free credit score scam. The settlement also requires the company to get consumers’ consent before billing them and provide them with an easy way to cancel.

The defendants do not admit or deny any of the allegations in the free credit score scam lawsuit.
