free credit score scam settlement

The Federal Trade Commission, the State of Illinois and the State of Ohio have reportedly reached a settlement with One Technologies, a company that offered “free” credit scores. If you were charged for MyCreditHealth or ScoreSense credit monitoring, you may be eligible for a refund.

According to the credit score scam lawsuit, One Technologies operated at least 50 websites that purported to offer free credit scores to consumers. These websites included FreeScore360.com, FreeScoreOnline.com, ScoreSense.com, and many others.

When consumers used these websites to access their credit scores, they were automatically enrolled in credit monitoring programs and were charged monthly fees without their consent, according to the FTC lawsuit. Allegedly, One Technologies did not clearly inform consumers that if they failed to cancel their free trial within seven days, they would be billed $29.95 per month.

Under the terms of the settlement, One Technologies will pay $22 million to compensate consumers who were affected by the alleged free credit score scam. The settlement also requires the company to get consumers’ consent before billing them and provide them with an easy way to cancel.

The defendants do not admit or deny any of the allegations in the free credit score scam lawsuit.

This scam is still going. I have been charged $39.95 each month, which is different from the other people filing complaints. If this scam has been recognized, why is it still being operated?

  4. Tim T says:

I have been charged 29.95 each month since april of 2013. I was under the impression I had cancelled the service. Ive spent close to 3 hours on the phone with them trying to correct this. They continue to tell me someone from their corporate office will contact me shortly. This NEVER happens. I want to to be involved in the suit against this fraudulent company.

I received a letter in the mail, the part I was to sign and return by 12/31/2015. Well I think I lost it, don’t think it made it in the mail. It pertained to ScoreSense and all the money that got from me for at least 3 years back. I tried to stop until my bank quit paying them. After I found out it was for nothing.

  7. Carol Mckinnon JOHNSON says:

I have been paying $29.95 for months not knowing that I was being charged this went on for years until I try to stop it and they did not cancel it so I would take what little bit of money I had in my account so they could not get it, so my question is why and can I received a claim for me in the mail or in the mail. Please reply to my request to this matter.

  9. Christine Cumming says:

I had Free Score do this to me and I never received a claim form. Im sure its because I moved and the time has passed. How do I fix this?

  10. Victoria Bell says:

ScoreSense debited my checking account for a year. I called to stop the 29.95 a month and was repeatedly told they would stop… I tried to stop payment with my bank who directed me back to ScoreSense. My debit card expired and that when the payments stopped. I never received a claimant number in the mail… My luck :(
