Dollar General Corp. and other defendants have agreed to a $28.5 million settlement to benefit consumers who purchased DG Auto motor oils.

The Class includes anyone living in the United States who purchased any of the following DG Auto motor oils for personal use, not for resale, between Sept. 1, 2010, and Dec. 31, 2017:

  • DG SAE 10W-30 (SF specification) for use in vehicles manufactured after 1988
  • DG SAE 10W-40 (SF specification) for use in vehicles manufactured after 1988
  • DG SAE 30 (SA specification) for use in vehicles manufactured after 1930

Class Members submitting a valid claim form will be able to claim up to $16.80 without proof of purchase.

A class action lawsuit had alleged the defendants deceptively marketed and sold DG Auto motor oils that were obsolete and could potentially harm vehicles.

Class Members may claim refund benefits as well as property damage benefits.

Class Members may make a claim for a full or partial refund, depending on whether they have proof of purchase.

Those who submit a valid claim form for a partial refund without proof of purchase may claim $1.68 per quart for up to 10 quarts of DG Auto motor oil purchased, for a maximum of $16.80.

Partial refund claims are limited to one per household.

Class Members who are able to submit proof of purchase may submit a claim for a full refund, and may claim the actual amount they paid for DG Auto motor oil.

Consumers may not file claims for both partial and full refunds.

Those wanting to submit a claim for property damage allegedly caused by the covered DG Auto motor oils must file a claim form along with supporting documentation.

If the claim is submitted with an affidavit from an ASE-certified mechanic, the Class Member will be eligible for the following cash payments, depending on the vehicle’s mileage:

  • Up to $2,250 if the vehicle was model year 2010 or later and had less than 100,000 miles on it at the time the engine damage occurred
  • Up to $1,250 if the vehicle was model year 2000-2009, had between 100,001 and 200,000 miles on it at the time the engine was damaged, or meets one of the criteria of the above but not both
  • Up to $750 if the claim does not meet the criteria of the first two groups but otherwise qualifies

Those who submit a property damage claim without an affidavit from an ASE-certified mechanic will be entitled to the following, depending on the mileage of the vehicle:

  • Up to $500 if the vehicle was model year 2010 or later and had less than 100,000 miles on it at the time the engine was damaged
  • Up to $350 if the vehicle was model year 2000-2009, had between 100,001 and 200,000 miles on it at the time the engine was damaged, or meets one of those criteria but not both
  • Up to $250 if the claim does not meet the criteria of the first two groups but otherwise qualifies

In addition to the monetary relief, Dollar General has agreed to stop selling obsolete DG Auto motor oils and to implement more oversight to the quality and labeling requirements of its automotive products.

A final approval hearing will take place June 22, 2021.

Class Members who would like to exclude themselves from or object to the DG Auto oil settlement must do so by May 10, 2021.

Claims for refund benefits must be submitted by June 8, 2021.

The deadline to file a claim for property damage benefits must be submitted no later than Aug. 23, 2021

    1. Dathan Shepherd says:

      I want my money

    2. Donald Lively says:

I applied for this lawsuits shortly after being on a trip and discovered my oil light had came on just under 1200 miles on a fresh oil change where the tech didn’t tighten the oil plug all the way. My only option within 100 miles of where I was at was tourchase oil from dollar general. My husband and I discussed having another oil change to replace the dollar general oil and he decided weshould be OK to just finish that oil change out with the dollar general oil but we ended up with a blown up motor before time for out next oil change. We have never heard anything from this until i just read where it had been settled. So any info on what we should do now would be appreciated.

  5. Sandra Cichocki says:

  6. BETTY L WALKER says:

I read not to long ago maybe a couple of weeks ago that banks and credit unions were being sued in the Washington area, due to ATM Fees being charged unfairly like at 3.00 for each fee.well my question is ,I live in KY and my bank charges me 3.00 for every ATM fee I access, plus when I use the machine at a store they the store also chgs anywhere fr 2.75 to 3.00 also plus my bank charges me an additional 3.00 to. One month after I got my bank statement I had been charged over 36.00 on ATM fees.thats not fair I don’t think, but I wanted to find out if it was just there in Washington, or. any place that does unfairly business. They do me that way every single month. By the way my bank is BB/T .but now merged with Truist. Thank You . BLWalker

  7. Carla Ford says:

    RECEIVED $8.40 VIA PAYPAL 9/29

  8. Tiffany says:

Has anybody received a check in the mail yet for the Property Damage Relief Claim?? Because I’ve contacted them numerous times, But the they keep saying that they have not determined a date yet for The Property Damage Claim Checks to be mailed out. So how long does it take?? It shouldn’t take this long especially when the Judge approved the Settlement back in June 2021…

    1. business says:

NO , I have not they told me i was approved for 1250. and there is no date yet. what have you heard . Then I called just now said they were mailed in october. on hold with them now. this is such bs.

      1. Tiffany says:

I contacted them numerous times & they told me that I was approved also, but that the date hasn’t yet been determined & to be patient. It sure is B.S. because the damn settlement was approved in June, So why the hell do we gotta wait to get our money that we’re entitled to for property damages, but the people who just purchased the oil but didn’t have their car’s damaged get their money first? That’s not fair at all!! Shi***, But I’m not even gonna talk about what’s fair & what’s not. Especially now a days!!! Lol..

    2. NONOAME says:

HAVE YOU RECEIVED YOUR CHECK FOR DAMAGE RELIEF YET? PLS LET ME KNOW .

  9. Erika Bell says:

Received paper check $16.80 from Dollar General Corp
    3 October 2021.
