U.S. District Judge James Donato has approved a $700 million settlement to resolve claims Google violated antitrust laws by monopolizing app distribution and in-app billing services on Android devices.

The Google Play Store settlement benefits consumers who made a qualifying purchase through the Google Play Store or paid for in-app content through Google Play Billing between Aug. 16, 2016, and Sept. 30, 2023.

According to the multistate complaint, Google violated federal and state antitrust laws by monopolizing app distribution and in-app billing services on Android devices. As a result of this alleged monopoly, consumers were forced to pay inflated prices for apps and in-app purchases, the states contend.

Judge Donato granted preliminary approval of the settlement on Nov. 20, 2025, and ordered that eligible consumers be notified. The final settlement approval was granted on April 30, 2026.

Google has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $700 million settlement to resolve the allegations.

Under the terms of the Google Play Store settlement, consumers can receive a cash payment based on the amount they paid for apps and in-app content through Google Play Billing. They will receive at least $2.

Payments will be distributed automatically. Eligible consumers will be notified by email or text using the contact information associated with their Google Play account, and payments will be sent through PayPal or Venmo. If the email address or phone number associated with their Google Play account does not match an existing PayPal or Venmo account, they may be able to create a new account or redirect the payment to another account.

There will be a supplemental claims process after the automatic payments process is complete. This process is only required to those who do not want to create a new PayPal or Venmo account or redirect the payment, no longer have access to the email address or phone number associated with their Google Play account or were expecting to receive a payment but did not.

The deadline for exclusion and objection was Feb. 19, 2026.

The final approval hearing for the Google Play Store antitrust lawsuit was approved April 30, 2026.

No claim form is required to benefit from the Google Play Store settlement. Consumers who did not exclude themselves will automatically receive settlement benefits.
