Macy’s Data Breach Settlement Checks
Consumers have been receiving class action rebates of $52.49 from Macy’s as part of a settlement the company reached over a data breach.
Plaintiff Anna Carroll filed the class action lawsuit against Macy’s in 2018 after she said the retail giant notified her it had been subject to data breach by third-party hackers. The Macy’s account owner claimed her personal information, including her name, birthday, credit card number and contact information, was compromised. She won the right to represent a Class of other account owners whose information was also exposed.
The plaintiffs said Macy’s didn’t do enough to protect their critical data.
Macy’s denied all claims, but agreed to settle the matter for a total of $257,500.
Eligible Class Members included customers in the U.S. who were notified by Macy’s of the data breach in July 2018. Those who submitted documented expenses related to the cyberattack were eligible to receive a maximum of $1,500. Class Members who could not provide documentation were eligible for up to $30 in compensation for time spent to recover from the data breach.
The deadline to file a claim for this settlement was April 6, 2020.

Spotloan High Interest Rates Settlement Checks
BlueChip Financial has been sending out settlement checks to eligible consumers for as much as $168 to resolve class action claims that its Spotloan company charged illegal interest rates.
The payouts are part of an $18.5 million settlement BlueChip negotiated with roughly 366,000 Class Members who borrowed money from Spotloan between Jan. 1, 2012 and Oct. 31, 2018.
