Mandalay Bay - las vegas mass shooting

A settlement fund of $800 million will be disbursed to victims of the 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting.

In a statement in probate court Thursday, plaintiff’s counsel said Clark County District Court Judge Linda Bell had approved the disbursement April 1, according to local CBS affiliate KLAS.

The probate court hearing was being held to approve the sale of land in Henderson, Nevada, owned by shooter Stephen Paddock, KLAS reported.

On Oct. 1, 2017, Paddock fired down on the Route 91 Harvest country music festival from a room at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, killing 58 people and leaving hundreds more injured, either from gunshot wounds or from their attempts to escape the festival grounds.

In the days ahead of the Las Vegas mass shooting, he transported ammunition and 23 guns to his hotel suite.

Mandalay Bay is owned by MGM Resorts International. MGM’s portfolio consists of 29 “hotel and destination gaming offerings” at locations in the United States and Macau, according to the company’s website.

The company employs about 83,000 people.

A number of lawsuits and class actions were filed against MGM Resorts, with the plaintiffs arguing the hotel was negligent and should have known the shooter was hoarding weapons.

These lawsuits and class actions against MGM sought compensation for the physical and emotional injury, as well as for past and future medical bills.

Judge Bell approved the $800 million Las Vegas mass shooting settlement Sept. 30, 2020, according to USA Today.

About 4,400 victims and relatives of victims of the Las Vegas mass shooting are expected to receive a payment from the settlement, USA Today reported.
