mandalay bay in las vegasMGM recently agreed to pay up to $800 million to resolve legal action related to the 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting which took the lives of 58 people.

According to MGM, they will pay between $735 million and $800 million depending on the number of individuals who participate in the settlement proceedings.

The hotel company’s insurance carriers will reportedly be covering the majority of the settlement by forking over up to $751 million.

Regardless of the number of claimants, the settlement process is reportedly set to be complete by the end of 2020.

Leading up to the 2017 mass shooting, shooter Stephen Paddock reportedly spent several days transporting 23 guns into his hotel suite at MGM’s Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Paddock reportedly brought more than 10 suitcases up to his room over the course of several days which allowed him to hoard massive amounts of ammunition and numerous high powered weapons.

With his stockpile of guns and ammunition, Paddock fired down on a nearby country music festival for 10 to 15 minutes. He killed 58 people and left 700 others injured from the shooting or from attempting to escape the area.

In the months following the shooting, people began to file lawsuits and class action lawsuits against MGM. The plaintiffs claimed that the hotel should have known that Paddock was hoarding weapons and that their negligently relaxed security contributed to the deadly shooting.

Claims against the hotel company sought compensation for the physical and emotional injuries stemming from the shooting as well as the past and future medical bills many victims were left with.

Now that the claims are being settled, these victims will be able to take the first steps in moving on – although the trauma of the shooting will likely never fade.

MGM has agreed to settle the claims against them in order to avoid ongoing litigation which can be costly, emotional, and rife with risks.

“Our goal has always been to resolve these matters so our community and the victims and their families can move forward in the healing process,” said MGM Resorts CEO Jim Murren in a statement. “We have always believed that prolonged litigation around these matters is in no one’s best interest. It is our sincere hope that this agreement means that scenario will be avoided.”

Lawyers for the claimants agree that the MGM class action settlement is a fair deal but note that no amount of money can bring back the 58 lives lost.

“While nothing will be able to bring back the lives lost or undo the horrors so many suffered on that day, this settlement will provide fair compensation for thousands of victims and their families,” lead counsel for the plaintiffs said in a statement. “We believe that the terms of this settlement represent the best outcome for our clients and will provide the greatest good for those impacted by these events.”

I am a Las Vegas local and I love my city, and have been working MGM since 2015. Until that horrific night of the shooting I was there enjoying some great country jams and 1 man and all those guns…so many guns…1 man. That night changed my life forever. My life has been spiraling mentally and physically since. I have disturbing videos of that night which I believe recorded the first gunshot. I had night terrors for a year and have long term back issues from running and trampling over people. The PTSD which I’ve never had anything like that ever existed in me. Made and making my life a living hell!!! I still deal with PTSD til this day and im having a really hard time dealing with life. I’ve been trying to reach out to lawyers to see what else I can do get on board and they just say “it’s been closed”
So what about the victims that are unaccounted for that maybe in same boat as I am? Just finding about this lawsuit just a month ago?
If ANYONE PLEASE point me to someone who can HELP ME!!!

    Feel free to contact
    THANK YOU

I was there working at the airport that fateful night and had a clear view of the Mandalay bay hotel. With in 30 minutes after the shooting we encountered a group of people who were at the concert and trying to escape the carnage unfolding at Mandalay bay, these people breeched the LAS airport perimeter and crossed active runways and taxiways before reaching us.

At that time I was working as an Aircraft Mechanic doing work for Allegiant Airways and myself and another mechanic assigned to complete tasks on a MD80 aircraft. There were only 2 of us and our airplane, there were about 30 people in this group, men and women, many were crying and some had bloody clothing and they approached us with hands up in the air asking for shelter and help.

They explained what just happened and we escorted them to our maintenance facility and after a time the city came to pick them up. Airport was on lockdown not able to leave. Indeed that was a very depressing and dangerous night!
