Update:

  • SoulCycle agreed to settle a class action lawsuit accusing the company of failing to make its website fully accessible to individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
  • The conditions of the settlement were not made available; however, the complaint is set to be dismissed once the fitness company meets them.
  • SoulCycle had been accused of operating a website containing access barriers to screen-reading software used by blind and visually impaired individuals to access the internet.
  • Earlier this month, the legally blind man behind the class action lawsuit also dismissed — with no explanation — a separate complaint he brought against CorePower Yoga over similar claims.

SoulCycle website class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Daniel Rodriguez filed a class action lawsuit against SoulCycle Inc.
  • Why: Rodriguez claims SoulCycle failed to make its website fully accessible to individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
  • Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in New York federal court.

(Jan. 4, 2023)

SoulCycle failed to design and construct its website in a way that would make it fully accessible and independently usable for individuals who are blind or visually impaired, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Daniel Rodriguez, a legally blind man, claims SoulCycle denies individuals who are blind or visually impaired the full and equal access to the goods and services it offers on its website.

Rodriguez argues SoulCycle is violating the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by allegedly denying this equal access to its goods and services to individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

“Because Defendant’s website … is not equally accessible to blind and visually impaired consumers, it violates the ADA,” the SoulCycle class action states.

Rodriguez wants to represent a nationwide class and New York City subclass of individuals who are blind or visually impaired and who have been denied equal access to the goods and services offered by SoulCycle on its website.

SoulCycle website contains access barriers to screen-reading software, class action says

SoulCycle’s website contains access barriers that prevent it from being compatible with screen-reading software used by individuals who are blind or visually impaired to browse the internet, the SoulCycle class action alleges.

“Unless websites are designed to be read by screen-reading software, blind and visually-impaired persons are unable to fully access websites, and the information, products, goods and contained thereon,” the SoulCycle class action states.

In addition to allegedly violating the ADA, Rodriguez claims SoulCycle is in violation of New York City Human Rights Law

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory and injunctive relief along with an award of compensatory, statutory and punitive damages for himself and all class members.

A similar class action lawsuit was filed earlier this month against Nuts.com by a consumer arguing the company has its website set up in a way that makes it impossible for individuals who are blind or visually impaired to make a transaction.

The plaintiffs are represented by Mark Rozenberg of Stein Saks PLLC.

The SoulCycle website class action lawsuit is Rodriguez, et al. v. SoulCycle Inc., Case No. 1:23-cv-00010, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.

Bidrl, a auction warehouse. I am unable to stand or walk for ling periods of time. This business has a warehouse you must go to to pick up any item you won at auction. They make you stand and wait for ling periods of time, providing no seating for me to sit. By the time I get my item I am in unbearable pain and when I told them something about this they told me if I don’t like it, I can spend my money else where. They were rude and offered nothing to help those with a disanility who buy items a way to get their items without standing in line fir extended periods.
