Ticketmaster, TicketsNow Fee Class Action Settlement
By Matt O’Donnell
Â
Bruce Springsteen fans have won a $16.5 million class action lawsuit settlement with Ticketmaster for allegedly tricking them into buying more expensive tickets on its resale website, TicketsNow.com. If approved, the Ticketmaster settlement will provide $10 in cash or a future concert discount of up to $18.50 to anyone who purchased a concert or sporting event ticket between 2008 and 2009  — not just to a Springsteen show.
Â
The Ticketmaster class action lawsuit was one of several filed over ticket sales to Springsteen’s 2009 national tour. Fans allege in the consolidated class action lawsuit that when they went to purchase tickets on February 2, 2009, the day the tickets went on sale, they were unknowingly redirected to Ticketmaster’s resale site, TicketsNow.com, where seats to the same shows were being sold at hundred of dollars over their face value.Â
Â
Outrage by fans led then-New Jersey Attorney General Anne Milgram to file a complaint with Ticketmaster, which led to an investigation and complaint filed by the Federal Trade Commission. Ticketmaster settled both those cases. Since the 2009 controversy, Ticketmaster has changed its website policy so ticket buyers know when they are being redirected to another site.

This same thing just happened to us for the Taylor Swift concert. We were shunted off to TicketsNow and scalped for $100 over the face value. So, they have not learned their lesson!
Having gone to a number of concerts over the years most were booked through Ticketmaster. The resale site given was funny but we wanted to go see concerts over the years including American Idol tours and other top singers. It is about time that someone did something about these deceptive sales tactics and I am glad to see that this class-action suit proceeded.
