A federal judge has granted final approval to a $1.4 million class action settlement over allegations that Humphreys Pharmacal made misleading statements about the efficacy of its homeopathic products, calling the settlement “fair and reasonable.”
In approving the Humphreys class action settlement, U.S. District Judge Michael M. Anello noted that only one Class Member opted out of the Class by the opt-out deadline and only one objection was filed. “Thus, with only one objection, the overall reaction to the Settlement appears to be positive,” Anello said in his Oct. 23 decision.
A total of 2,424 claims were made, representing over 11,600 purchases of the Humphreys homeopathic products included in the class action settlement. [See which products were included in our notice of the Humphreys class action settlement.] These claimants will receive up to $10 per product purchased, subject to a $50 or $100 cap per household, depending on whether they submitted proof of purchase. Payments will be made directly to Class Members by first class mail after their entitlement to payment has been verified. Claims will be paid no later than six months after the claim filing deadline, according to the Settlement Agreement.
The deadline to file a claim for the Humphreys class action settlement was June 19, 2013.
