Tesla rearview camera recall overview:

  • Who: Tesla is recalling near;u 240,000 vehicles.
  • Why: The circuit board in the vehicles can short, leading to a loss of the rearview camera image.
  • Where: The Tesla recall is active in the United States.

Tesla is recalling almost 240,000 vehicles over concerns an electrical problem can cause a loss of the rearview camera image.

The Tesla recall was published to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Jan. 6. It applies to 239,382 Tesla vehicles including the 2024-2025 Model 3, Model S, 2023-2025 Model X and 2023-2025 Model Y.

According to the Tesla rearview camera recall, the computer circuit board in these models can short, resulting in the loss of the rearview camera image.

“A rearview camera that does not display an image reduces the driver’s rear view, increasing the risk of a crash,” the recall says.

The issue also means that the Teslas do not comply with federal motor safety standards for rear visibility.

Tesla offers free remedy for affected drivers, recall says

The company says it is not aware of any collisions, injuries or fatalities related to the recall. However, as of Dec. 30, 2024, Tesla had identified 887 warranty claims and 68 field reports related to the issue. Tesla is not currently facing legal action due to the recall, however Top Class Actions follows recall closely as they can sometimes result in lawsuits.

To fix the issue, Tesla has already released an over-the-air software update. Tesla will also identify any vehicles that experienced a circuit board failure or stress that may lead to a circuit board failure and replace the affected computers, free of charge, the electric vehicle company said. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 7.

This is the latest in a string of recalls for Tesla. Late last year, the company recalled almost 695,000 vehicles, including some of its Cybertrucks over concerns the vehicles’ tire pressure light might not work properly.
