NFL Rams move from St. Louis to Los AngelesTicketholders managed to secure a $24 million class action settlement over allegations that the NFL failed to properly repay purchasers after moving its Rams from St. Louis to Los Angeles in 2015.

Under the terms of the St. Louis Rams season ticket license class action settlement, the team will pay up to $24 million to former season ticketholders.

Lead plaintiffs alleged in their Rams class action lawsuit that they had purchased seat licenses that gave them the ability to purchase subsequent season tickets to home games.

However, when the team announced plans to move to Los Angeles in 2015, those that purchased the seat licenses at the St. Louis stadium through 2024 say they were left holding the bag.

“This is an excellent outcome for both classes,” noted the plaintiff in their motion supporting the NFL’s Rams season ticket license class action settlement. “Each class member making a valid claim will receive a sizable cash payment based on an agreed schedule.”

Ticketholders can expect to receive about 30 percent of the face value of the seat licenses they purchased for the old St. Louis Rams stadium. Class Members include both ticketholders who bought their seat licenses through the Rams, as well as those who went through a third party.

The St. Louis Rams season ticket license class action settlement covers three class action lawsuits alleging similar claims that were consolidated.

The plaintiffs in the NFL class action lawsuits alleged that they paid significant sums, amounting to thousands of dollars, to purchase seat licenses.

The St. Louis Rams season ticket license class action lawsuit alleged that the team violated the terms of their agreement with seat license holders by failing to provide even a partial refund when they picked up and moved to California.

There are several tiers of Class Members under the terms of the St. Louis Rams season ticket license class action settlement, including those who purchased or had seat licenses transferred to them directly, as well as those who purchased through an intermediary.

Class Members also include those who did not receive a cancellation notice regarding their seat licenses when the Rams moved to Los Angeles.

After the claims were consolidated, the team sought to delay the St. Louis Rams season ticket license class action lawsuit. However, a federal judge refused to halt the litigation and forced the Rams to turn over pricing information to the plaintiffs.

The St. Louis Rams season ticket license class action settlement comes after an initial round of mediation failed in 2017.
