Ethos Technologies data breach $1M class action settlement

Ethos Technologies agreed to a $1 million settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit claiming that it failed to prevent a 2022 data breach incident.

The settlement benefits individuals who receive a notice letter informing them that their information may have been compromised in an Ethos Technologies data breach that occurred between August and December 2022.

Ethos Technologies reportedly experienced a data breach between August and December 2022, compromising sensitive consumer information. Plaintiffs in the data breach class action lawsuit claim Ethos could have prevented the breach through reasonable cybersecurity measures. 

Ethos Technologies is a life insurance company that sells policies online.

Ethos hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $1 million settlement to resolve the data breach class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive a flat payment of $100. Members of the California subclass can receive an additional $100 payment. These payments may be reduced on a pro rata basis depending on the number of claims filed. 

Class members can also seek up to $5,000 in reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses related to the Ethos data breach.

All class members are eligible for 12 months of free credit monitoring and identity protection services through the settlement.

The deadline for exclusion and objection has been moved to May 4, 2024.

The final approval hearing for the Ethos Technologies data incident settlement has been rescheduled for Aug. 5, 2024.

In order to receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form. The deadline has been moved to June 5, 2024.

Individuals who receive a notice letter informing them that their information may have been compromised in an Ethos Technologies data breach that occurred between August and December 2022
