A threat actor accessed the personal information of nearly 2.7 million FBCS customers Feb. 14-Feb. 26, and the company began to inform those individuals on or about May 10, nearly two months after the breach, the class actions allege.
FBCS filed a notice of the data breach in Maine that estimated it impacted nearly 2 million customers, according to the lawsuits. The exposed data reportedly included names, Social Security numbers, date of birth, mailing address and telephone numbers.
The data breach leads to an increased risk of identity theft, misappropriation of health insurance benefits, intrusion of his health privacy and similar forms of criminal mischief, the FCBS lawsuits say.

FBCS is a licensed and bonded collection agency offering pre-charge-off, early out and third-party collection services. It claims to have state-of-the-art security and above-industry-standard networks, according to the data breach lawsuits.
“The FBCS team is trained on security policies to keep our facilities and your data safe,” the class actions allege FCBS claims. “We provide training to enhance our team’s understanding of modern security risks, including social engineering attacks, phishing schemes, brute force attacks and more.”
FBCS offered free credit monitoring services to those potentially impacted by the breach, the lawsuits say.
