Advocate Aurora Health agreed to a settlement worth more than $12.2 million to resolve a class action lawsuit claiming it compromised patient data by using pixel tracking tools on its websites, LiveWell app and MyChart portal to share sensitive health information with third parties.

The class action lawsuit settlement benefits consumers who visited Advocate Aurora’s websites, LiveWell App or MyChart patient portal between Oct. 24, 2017, and Oct. 22, 2022.

According to the class action lawsuit, Advocate Aurora Health used pixel tracking tools on its websites and apps, which allowed it to share sensitive information with third parties without patient consent. These tools allegedly allowed Advocate Aurora to share data with Facebook, Google and other third parties.

Advocate Aurora Health is a Midwest health system with locations in Illinois and Wisconsin. The health system offers virtual resources such as the LiveWell app and an online patient portal.

Advocate Aurora Health hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $12.225 million settlement to resolve the pixel tracking class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the Advocate Aurora Health settlement, class members can receive an equal share of the net settlement fund. Exact payments will vary depending on the number of class members who file a claim, but each claimant could receive up to $50 from the settlement.

  1. Gail carlson says:

I received a check in the amount of $8.97. When I attempted to redeem the check at my BMO bank they were unable to do so. It seems that the paper or the numbers are unreadable by the banks computer. The teller tried 3 times it is not able to redeem. I am told that other checks from the same settlement administrator #175057 present to BMO were also rejected by the system.. this appears to be a federal fraud situation. If this is happening to others contact the federal government for fraud if you are unable to cash checks.

  2. Dale Adams says:

The settlement was 12.2 million and based on a case like this the attorneys will take 40% instead of 33% but in saying this after the attorney removes the 40% 7 million 200 thousand should be left, i received a check for $8.97 so if you divide $8.97 into 7 million 200 thousand this means 2,424,242 filed claims. Do the math something is wrong

  3. NinaSimone says:

I received $8.97 via PayPal today

    1. Karen says:

I got a check for $8.97. That’s plain crazy, they let our personal info get hacked and they compensate us with $8.97. Time to change health care providers

  4. Chiquita White says:

Hi you guys sent me and my daughter a claim number and I filled out before the deadline still nothing

    1. B says:

I got the same. This is bull. 8.97 out of over 12 millon + and all my data and social security # is out there now. The lawyer get millions and none of there data is leaked out.
