LSC Communications requires employees to use fingerprints to log in and out of work

A settlement has been reached that would resolve allegations that LSC Communications violated the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act by requiring employees to scan their hand, palm or finger to log in and out of work.

Class Members include those in Illinois who were required to provide a palm or fingerprint for timekeeping purposes as a part of their employment with LSC Communications between Sept. 21, 2012 and April 30, 2019.

The LSC Communications fingerprint scan class action lawsuit alleged that the company violated Illinois residents’ rights under state privacy laws by forcing employees to provide biometric information without the appropriate protections and disclosures.

The Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) provides additional protections for biometric information. Biometric information includes facial scans, fingerprints and handprints used to identify an individual.

Under the Illinois law, those wishing to collect and use biometric information, including employers, must provide written notice that biometric information will be collected or stored. The specific purpose and length of time that the information will be stored and used must also be disclosed.

LSC Communications allegedly failed to give this information to its Illinois employees before it forced them to provide their hand or fingerprint scans to record their work time.

LSC Communications agreed to settle the fingerprint scan class action lawsuit. Under the terms of the settlement, Class Members can receive up to $750.

To make a claim in the LSC Communications fingerprint scan class action settlement, Class Members must submit a Claim Form online or via mail. Those who do not receive or misplace their Notice, must obtain a login ID and PIN by calling the settlement administrator at 1-866-477-9899.

What about six flags magic mountain? They made season pass holders submit fingerprints for entry into the park for several years. They just recently , and rather abruptly, went back to the photo system and it didn’t occur to me until then that maybe something happened with the fingerprint information. I would like to
Know how my biometric information has been stored and how secure that system is.
