Zithromax Study: Z-Pak Users Twice as Likely to Die from Sudden Heart Problems
By Mike Holter
A recent study by Vanderbilt University researchers found that the antibiotic Zithromax — the eighth most prescribed medication in the country last year — increases the chances for sudden deadly heart problems. The study suggests that patients who take Zithromax (generically known as azithromycin, and popularly as Z-Pak) more than double their risk of death compared to patients who take other antibiotics like amoxicillin or no antibiotics at all. The Zithromax study backs claims made in numerous Zithromax lawsuits filed across the country by patients who suffered heart problems and in Zithromax wrongful death lawsuits by the families of Zithromax heart attack victims who died. The Zithromax study, published in May 2012 in the New England Journal of Medicine, found that patients using the 5-day course of Z-Pak/Zithromax/azithromycin were twice as likely to die from a heart attack or sudden cardiac event compared to those on the antibiotic amoxicillin. Researchers analyzed health records and data on millions of prescriptions for several antibiotics given to about 540,000 patients from 1992 to 2006. There were 29 heart-related deaths among Zithromax users during five days of treatment.
The FDA recently warned physicians to be aware of the Z-Pak heart attack risks when prescribing Zithromax, and that it is in the process of updating risk information on Z-Pak drug labels. But this is too little too late for many Zithromax and Z-Pak users who have already suffered serious Z-Pak side effects such as heart attack, liver failure, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, Trachoma/eye infections/blindness, Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis, or other cardiovascular problems after taking Zithromax. Class action lawsuits have already been filed in recent years by patients, and Zithromax class action lawsuit attorneys expect more Zithromax class action lawsuits to be filed. Family members who lost a loved one due to an alleged Zithromax side effect have also filed Zithromax wrongful death lawsuits and Z-Pak wrongful death class action lawsuits. A class action lawsuit may not be your best course of action, however, so it’s important to speak with a Zithromax compensation consultant to determine the best route for receiving compensation for Zithromax side effect injuries. This may include filing an individual Zithromax wrongful death lawsuit or individual Z-Pak injury lawsuit. A Z-Pak compensation specialist will help you determine what’s best for you and your family.
Anyone who has taken Zithromax, azithromycin or Z-Pak should be aware of the side effects so they can file a claim for compensation. Side effects cited in lawsuits include:
* heart attack
* Stevens-Johnson Syndrome
* liver failure
* Trachoma/blindness/eye infection
* Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis
* cardiovascular problems
If you or your loved one has experienced any of these Zithromax/Z-Pak side effects, it’s critical you speak with a Zithromax side effect and compensation consultant now to determine if you’re a good fit to file a Zithromax class action lawsuit or individual Zithromax lawsuit. The medical expenses alone for any Z-Pak side effect could amount in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, and sadly some have died as a result of these side effects. A Zithromax wrongful death lawsuit may be your best course of action.
If you would like more information about filing a Zithromax class action lawsuit or would like to file an individual Zithromax lawsuit or Z-Pak wrongful death lawsuit, just go to the Zithromax, Z-Pak, Azithromycin Class Action Lawsuit Investigation page. You can submit your information, or your loved one’s, to Zithromax attorneys who are actively investigating all claims regarding Zithromax heart attacks, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, liver failure, Trachoma, Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis, and other cardiovascular problems. Z-Pak attorneys are waiting to talk to you now and the consultation is free. These Zithromax lawyers don’t get paid unless you win or settle.
