Young Plaintiff Claims Propecia Erectile Dysfunction Destroyed His Life

By John Curran

Propecia lawsuitWhile many Propecia injury lawyers have filed lawsuits against the drug’s manufacturer, Merck & Co., the range of plaintiff ages has become an interesting point to watch. In a recent lawsuit, a man from Nevada says he was just 26 when he started taking the drug to reverse early hair loss. Now he suffers persistent sexual side effects from the drug’s active ingredient, finasteride.

A doctor told him his erectile dysfunction problems were caused by Propecia and not because of any other disorders or conditions. The Nevadan alleges in the lawsuit that he has suffered quality of life issues, as well as ongoing suffering from the conditions. He is just one plaintiff in a growing multidistrict litigation centered in U.S. District Court in New York.

While the young man’s claim focuses on sexual dysfunction problems, there are also reports that he deals with finasteride side effects that include depression and anxiety. It is unclear, however, whether they are a result of the drug itself, or the erectile dysfunction leading to a diminished sense of manhood that other plaintiffs say they have experienced.

In either case, Merck is facing legal problems at a time when side effect victims of other medical products are making noise in the court system. The company’s NuvaRing birth control option is the subject of bellwether trials this summer, and the New Jersey drug maker has tried to delay that as well. In the case of Propecia erectile dysfunction side effects victims, it is still somewhat early in the legal process.

In fact, there is reason to believe that the drug could be linked to thousands of plaintiffs in the next year or so, with hundreds of claims already filed and millions of Propecia users accumulated over more than 15 years it has been on the market. Propecia lawsuit lawyers have noted that these side effects have persisted, allegedly for years in the case of some of their clients. Merck has agreed with this sentiment in other countries, updating product safety labeling to note that conditions could last after a user stops taking the medication.

Many men may not have been aware that the drug’s effect on hair growth could also affect other parts of their body. Those who have dealt with these disorders should get a free legal consultation about their potential options.
