What’s the Real Deal with Pradaxa Safety?
By Christina Drury

Pradaxa has been in the news recently for regularly causing side effects in patients – some that result in death. With over 500 Pradaxa-induced deaths in 2011 alone, Pradaxa has been a source of concern for many patients. The prescription drug is a blood thinner that is believed to have been rushed through the FDA approval process due to the need for an alternative to warfarin which has been tied to several claims of internal bleeding and subsequent injury. It appears that Pradaxa is no better, and with no antidote to reverse Pradaxa bleeding, it just might be worse.
Complaints against Boehringer Ingelheim
After realizing the dangers associated with the prescription blood-thinner Pradaxa, patients began filing Pradaxa injury lawsuits against the manufacturer, Boehringer Ingelheim. So many Pradaxa lawsuits were filed that the lawsuits have been consolidated into multidistrict litigation in Illinois.
Among the many complaints that have been lodged against Boehringer over Pradaxa side effects include: heart attack, internal bleeding in the kidney, brain and gastrointestinal area, and the worst of them all — death.
FDA Fails to See Potential Risk of Pradaxa Bleeding
Some believe that the FDA rushed through its approval process and, as a result, there have been substantial reports of injuries since the approval of Pradaxa in 2010. Merely a year after approval, thousands of injuries had been reported along with over 500 deaths.
As reported just a few days ago, the FDA carried out a review in which it determined that Pradaxa is no more dangerous than its competitor, warfarin. The review was put into effect because of the large amount of Pradaxa internal bleeding complaints the FDA was getting. It appears – according to several different sites – that the FDA was misguided in its study and that the Pradaxa safety study is of no use due to the fact that it does not make mention of those who have died as a result of Pradaxa bleeding side effects.
It also fails to mention that while Pradaxa side effects may cause internal bleeding, there is no known antidote that will reverse these internal bleeding side effects. As a result, many patients who were prescribed Pradaxa have suffered fatal injuries.
Seeking the Help You Need
Those who have suffered injuries due to Pradaxa internal bleeding side effects can file an active lawsuit due to the approval of the Illinois court orders. The Pradaxa lawsuits are specialized in nature which is why if you are seeking help, it is best to seek help from a Pradaxa injury lawyer who has already put forth the time and research in this issue.
It is important to note that if you have lost a loved one, you can file a Pradaxa bleeding lawsuit on behalf of their estate to ensure that their injuries are reported and possible compensation is received.
