Retired FBI Agent Sues Merck, Alleging Janumet Gave Him Cancer
By Robert J. Boumis
Robert and Kathleen Knapp of New York are suing Merck over allegations that Merck’s diabetes drug Janumet (a form of Januvia) caused Robert Knapp to develop pancreatic cancer.
Robert Knapp, a retired FBI agent, was prescribed Janumet in 2008 to help manage his type-2 diabetes. Type-2 diabetes is a chronic medical condition wherein the body stops responding to insulin, causing dangerous spikes in blood sugar levels.
Five years later, in 2013, Mr. Knapp was diagnosed with advanced-stage pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer is a particularly lethal form of cancer, since it often goes undiagnosed until it begins to spread beyond the pancreas. Most patients diagnosed have only months to live. Thus far, Knapp has lost more than a quarter of his body weight, suffers debilitating fatigue and pain from his battle with pancreatic cancer.
The Janumet cancer lawsuit alleges that despite the assertion that Janumet could potentially cause pancreatic cancer, Merck continued to manufacture, market and distribute the drug. The lawsuit further alleges that Merck actively concealed the risks of Janumet cancer, preventing patients like Robert Knapp and health care professionals from having all of the information they needed to make informed medical decisions.
The Janumet cancer lawsuit asserts that Knapp would have never used Janumet had he been aware of the risk of pancreatic cancer associated with the drug.
The case is formally titled Robert W. Knapp, et al. v. Merck Sharp and Dohme Corp., et al., Case No. 3:13-cv-02095-AJB-MDD, United States District Court, Eastern District of New York.

Gooooood! I don’t like the FBI or agents who work for them so I can’t say it’s a bad thing this guy got some karma and also a little cancer.
Well THE MAN. Mr Knapp was a great man and did more in his life than you could ever imagine. How dare you applaud someone’s death! Let’s hope you don’t run into the wrong person in life and express feelings like that.
