Propecia Patients Grew Hair But Lost Sex Drive

Last year, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) updated the warning for Propecia to note that Propecia sexual side effects could continue after the patient discontinues use of the drug. For 96 percent of these study participants, the Propecia sexual problems lasted more than one year after they stopped taking the medication. While the sample size was small and focused on men who already experienced persistent side effects, it raises concern about the safety of finasteride.

In clinical trials, only 2 percent of men experienced Propecia sexual side effects. It is unknown how many of these men experienced side effects that lasted after they ceased treatment.
