Propecia Erectile Dysfunction Prompts New Lawsuit Against Merck

On November 6, 2012, a 42-year-old man from Illinois entered the Propecia lawsuit MDL in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York in Brooklyn. The man claims that he continues to suffer sexual side effects from taking Propecia.
The Propecia lawsuit alleges that the man began taking Propecia (finasteride) 10 years ago when he was 32. The man was prescribed the drug to help control hair loss. The man took Propecia between 2002 and 2005 as directed. However, the man claims in the Propecia lawsuit that he began experiencing sex related side effects that persisted even after he stopped taking the drug in 2005. He says that he continues to experience Propecia side effects like erectile dysfunction and depression.
The Illinois man’s Propecia injury lawsuit charges Merck with negligence, strict liability, breach of warranty, and negligent infliction of emotional distress amongst other charges for the loss of quality of life he has suffered since he began taking Propecia.
Propecia Side Effects Are Long Lasting
Hundreds of Propecia injury lawsuits have been filed against Merck since the drug was released in 1997. At the time the drug was released Merck only provided a warning for the drug but only said that about 2% of users would experience Propecia sexual side effects such as lack of libido and loss of sexual desire. Further, Merck claimed that Propecia’s sexual side effects would not last long after a patient stopped taking the medication.
However, in 2009 the Swedish Medical Products Agency determined that Propecia sexual side effects could be permanent for some users. Nevertheless, Propecia did not update the warning label on the U.S. version of the drug to reflect the permanency of the side effects until 2011.
Numerous other studies have called Merck’s claims into question. Now plaintiff’s lawyers across the country have joined to hold Merck responsible for the alleged defects in Propecia.

Propecia lawsuit plaintiffs have alleged that Propecia has caused unexpected long-term sexual side effects such as:
* Persistently decreased sex drive
* Ejaculation disorders
* Low sperm count
* Erectile dysfunction
Additionally, Propecia has also been alleged to cause cognitive disorders including
* Anxiety
* Depression
* Suicidal thoughts
The plaintiffs have consolidated their Propecia injury lawsuits in the Eastern District of New York under a MDL under the Honorable John Gleeson. Plaintiffs have generally pleaded damages including pain and suffering, medical expenses, and economic loss.

I hope everyone that has had issues with Propecia report it to the FDA so they can start documenting cases. I contacted them and basically said in my email. “I wish they would take a closer look at Propecia, because it had ruined my life…..and if they wanted to hear my story I’d email it to them.” They sent a very nice and understand email back and wanted to hear more…..I think more people should email them.
