Pradaxa Side Effects Sideline Trial for New Treatment

By John Curran

PradaxaManufacturer Boehringer Ingelheim has continued to question the need for an antidote in spite of irreversible Pradaxa internal bleeding side effects. In fact, the firm actually tried to expand the drug’s reach, running a study to see whether or not it could be used as a post-surgery tool for patients receiving a mechanical valve.

Unfortunately, patients either could not get adequate levels of the medication into their system or they developed strokes after the valve replacement surgery. Boehringer Ingelheim continues to allege that its drug is safe for stroke prevention in other areas, omitting the dangers of Pradaxa internal bleeding side effects. However, Pradaxa brain hemorrhage class action lawsuit lawyers are noticing movement in that direction as well.

As the number of Pradaxa lawsuits mounts against the manufacturer, there are early reports that the pharmaceutical firm is working on an antidote to stop the bleeding. Unlike the old standby warfarin, emergency room surgeons have found it nearly impossible to help patients facing Pradaxa uncontrollable bleeding side effects, with about three in four dying in the hospital.

Pradaxa brain hemorrhage class action lawsuit attorneys note that this is coming two years after the product came onto the market in the U.S. It seems contradictory that the company would both trumpet the safety of its product while working on a treatment plan for the most dangerous condition, Pradaxa uncontrollable bleeding side effects.

It remains on the market, although doctors are complaining that both the cost of the medication and the risks make the drug little better than the much older warfarin, which was initially marketed as a rat poison. The cost differential between the drugs is about 60 times on an annual basis, even including the frequent blood tests required with warfarin.
