Other Birth Control Blood Clot Lawsuits Mount While Bayer Settles Yasmin/Yaz Lawsuits

By John Curran

Yaz blood clot class action lawsuitWhile manufacturers like Bayer have already been settling with Yasmin Yaz blood clot side effects attorneys and Plaintiffs, other birth control blood clot lawsuits are continuing to be filed. Several new claims have been filed this week alone, alleging that birth control products containing drospirenone have caused blood clots, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, heart attack, stroke and a number of other cardiovascular and circulatory side effects. These drospirenone birth control products include Yaz (and its generics Gianvi and Loryna), Yasmin (generics Ocella, Syeda and Zarah), Beyaz and Safyral.

It’s not shocking, then, that the number of Yasmin/Yaz lawsuit settlements by Bayer alone already numbers nearly 2,000, and the company has already set aside a little over $400 million for birth control blood clot lawsuit victims. Yet other manufacturers could run into similar costs due to Beyaz and Ocella deep vein thrombosis side effects. Considering that these form a large majority of the birth control sector, many are arguing that the costs of birth control blood clot lawsuit settlements are likely to run into billions, potentially for each manufacturer.

One reason is that many birth control lawsuit Plaintiffs are arguing that the companies failed to properly warn them of the side effects of Yasmin, Yaz, Ocella, Beyaz and other birth control drugs, such as deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, blood clots, heart attack and stroke. When these and similar Beyaz blood clot issues were publicized, millions of women were already taking them. In fact, some birth control blood clot lawsuit attorneys are also arguing that even gynecologists were unaware of how dangerous the drugs were. Yaz blood clot side effects occur at least 75 percent more often than in other oral birth control products.

In addition to birth control deep vein thrombosis issues, women may have other problems. Blood clots that travel to the lungs can cause pulmonary embolisms, while those that reach the brain can cause strokes. The costs of treating these Yaz and Yasmin blood clot victims can be very high.
