New Ruling in NuvaRing Lawsuit MDL Benefits Plaintiffs

Federal Judge Rodney Sippel has issued a ruling that the makers of NuvaRing, pharmaceutical giant Merck, are not allowed to keep documents relevant to NuvaRing lawsuits sealed. Merck attempted a legal move to have these documents kept from the public but Judge Sippel has refused. Presiding over hundreds of NuvaRing injury lawsuits against Merck, Judge Sippel is overseeing the multidistrict litigation in the Eastern District of Missouri. The court docket of the NuvaRing MDL reveals that Judge Sippel has not barred any additional lawsuits from being filed against NuvaRing because the time limit for women who have suffered serious side effects of NuvaRing has not expired.Developed and marketed by Merck, NuvaRing was presented as a safe and effective alternative to traditional birth control pills. Placed inside a woman’s vagina on a monthly basis, NuvaRing prevents conception by releasing a combination of etonogestrel and ethinyl estradiol. In 2011, the FDA released a study acknowledging that 56% of NuvaRing users may increase the risk of developing blood clots in comparison with those chose to use traditional birth control pills. Merck has now recognized and admitted the risks associated with NuvaRing blood clots and has outlined a list of side effects that users of the device may experience.
Symptoms and Side Effects of NuvaRing Blood Clots
Merck has now taken it upon themselves to release a list of serious NuvaRing side effects that may occur. Studies have revealed that the hormones in NuvaRing may lead to changes in the blood-clotting system, which could lead to blood clots forming more easily. NuvaRing blood clots can form in the legs, lungs and, on occasion, the blood vessels in the eyes. Symptoms of NuvaRing blood clots may include:
* Coughing Blood
* Crushing Chest Pain or Heaviness in the Chest
* Irregular Vaginal Bleeding or Spotting
* Pain in the Calf
* Severe Abdomen Pain
* Sharp Chest Pain
* Sudden Fever
* Sudden Partial or Complete Loss of Vision
* Sudden Severe Headache, Vomiting, Dizziness or Fainting
* Urgent, Burning, Frequent Urination
Any of the above symptoms may indicate that you are suffering from a blood clot or other serious complications that have been linked to the use of the NuvaRing. Blood clots caused by NuvaRing may produce the following dangerous conditions:

Second NuvaRing Lawsuit MDL Moving Forward
Another MDL involving NuvaRing lawsuits is moving forward in front of a judge in the New Jersey State Court. Close to 200 NuvaRing blood clot lawsuits are being consolidated. The judges involved in the NuvaRing MDLs are currently in the process of choosing bellwether trials. These trials are designed to allow attorneys representing both sides to test the strength of their arguments.
