Mesothelioma Lawsuit Accuses Metropolitan Life of Asbestos Conspiracy
By Mike Holter
A recent mesothelioma lawsuit filed in California makes an unusual claim against Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, alleging it conspired with the other Defendants to minimize the health risks associated with asbestos exposure. This is not the first time an insurance company has been sued in an asbestos mesothelioma lawsuit, but they are rarely accused of engaging in a conspiracy.
The asbestos lawsuit accuses Metropolitan Life of intentionally publishing false, misleading, inaccurate and deceptive information in leading medical journals in order to help manufacturers promote the sale and distribution of asbestos as a harmless product, and of collaborating with them to understate the hazards of asbestos exposure, “all for its own profit and gain.”
The lead Plaintiff in the mesothelioma lawsuit alleges he relied on Metropolitan Life’s tests and information dissemination in assessing his health risk for working with asbestos-containing products. As a direct result of Metropolitan’s failures to conduct or accurately publish adequate tests or disseminate accurate and truthful information, the Plaintiff’s risk of harm from asbestos exposure was increased, and he suffered severe side effects, the lawsuit says.
“Defendant Metropolitan Life Insurance Company rendered substantial aid and assistance by the manufacturers of asbestos containing products in which Plaintiff was exposed, and such assistance by Metropolitan Life aided and abetted the negligence and the marketing of unreasonably dangerous asbestos containing products by such manufacturers which proximately caused Plaintiff’s illness, injuries and disabilities,” the asbestos lawsuit states.
“Metropolitan Life acted recklessly, wantonly and in calculated disregard for the welfare of the general public, including Plaintiff,” the mesothelioma lawsuit adds.
The side effects of asbestos exposure can be deadly, and an estimated 100,000 people have died, or will die, from Mesothelioma, lung cancer, asbestosis or other asbestos-related diseases after being exposed to asbestos. Even if you don’t directly work with asbestos products, you are still at risk for asbestos exposure if you live with someone who is. Asbestos fibers can be brought home in your spouse’s clothing, and can infiltrate everything in your house. Family members of workers exposed to asbestos are at risk for being diagnosed with mesothelioma, even though they never handled or worked with asbestos.
Mesothelioma & Asbestos Side Effects
Anyone who has been exposed to asbestos should be aware of the side effects. Common asbestos exposure side effects include:
* Mesothelioma
* Asbestosis
* Lung cancer
* Asbestos warts
* Pleural plaques
* Diffuse pleural thickening
* Pneumothorax (collapsed lung)
If you or your loved one has experienced any of these asbestos side effects, it’s critical you speak with an asbestos side effect and compensation consultant now to determine if you’re a good fit to file a Mesothelioma class action lawsuit or individual asbestos lawsuit. There is often a statute of limitations for filing such a case, so you need to be aware of your legal rights. The medical expenses alone for any asbestos side effect could amount in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, and sadly some have died from an asbestos-related disease. An asbestos wrongful death lawsuit may be your best course of action.

We have a wrongful death suit filed however our attorney will not file a claim against Metropolitan Life. My mother in law died from Mesothelioma 10/7/2010. They sent us a letter trying to get us to sign a waiver to file against Metropolitan Life and we believe we are entitled to file a claim against them. Please call 307-689-8213.
