Machinist Sues Former Employers in Mesothelioma Asbestos Lawsuit

mesothelioma asbestos lawsuitA Pennsylvania man diagnosed with mesothelioma has filed a mass tort asbestos lawsuit in Philadelphia.

The Pennsylvania resident from Montgomery County claims that he was diagnosed with mesothelioma earlier this year due to asbestos exposure. He has filed his asbestos lawsuit against several companies that manufacture and distribute various products that contain the dangerous fiber.

The mesothelioma asbestos lawsuit was filed on May 29 in Common Pleas Court in Philadelphia by Lansdale, Pennsylvania, resident Michael Hrycko and his wife, Joyce. According to the lawsuit, Hrycko was diagnosed with mesothelioma in February. He believes he was exposed to asbestos when he worked as a machinist from 1960 to 2007 for a variety of companies, and that it was this exposure to asbestos that has caused to him developing mesothelioma.

According to the asbestos lawsuit, mesothelioma has causes “physical symptoms, impairment and disability.”

The companies he worked for during his 47 years as a machinist are Rudo Associates of Hatfield, Pennsylvania; Pennfield Precision of Sellersville, Pennsylvania; and Davro Instrument Corp. and Palco Precision, both of Landsdale, Pennsylvania.

The named defendants in the asbestos lawsuit are CBS Corp., Industrial Holdings Corp., Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., Plastics Engineering Co., Saint-Gobain Abrasives Inc., and Urban Carbide Corp.

The plaintiff is seeking damages from the above corporations.

Asbestos is used in almost 3,000 products, including fireproofing and insulation in buildings and shops, insulation for pipes and boilers, putties, caulks, paints, cements, friction products, such as clutch facings and brake linings in cars.

Asbestos poisoning usually occurs when the asbestos containing material is released into the air where the fibers are then inhaled by the victim. The most dangerous asbestos is friable asbestos, which is contained in fireproofing and various types of insulation. These fibers are difficult for the body is unable to break down.

Asbestos poisoning can cause lung cancer, mesothelioma, digestive system cancer, and asbestosis. The problem with these dangerous asbestos side effects is that they can take 15 to 40 years for these diseases to develop.

Mesothelioma is most commonly tied to asbestos poisoning. It is a rare cancer that forms in the thin tissue layer that surrounds the majority of internal organs called the mesothelium. It often infects the tissue that covers the lungs, called the pleura. It can also infect the tissue in the abdominal region, the heart, and the testicles. Mesothelioma is considered incurable even though there are treatments available for it. Most patients die within 12 months of diagnosis.
