GranuFlo Responsible for 23-Year-Old’s Death, Lawsuit Says

By Andrea Gressman

dialysis heart attackJosh Evans had been diagnosed with diabetes as a child and for years he battled this difficult condition only to have his life tragically taken by a heart attack at the young age of 23. He has left behind a family who loves him dearly, which includes five brothers. As a result of this significant loss, his family has opted to file a GranuFlo lawsuit against Fresenius, the manufacturer of the dialysis product they say killed Josh as well as the product NaturaLyte. Both have been linked to fatal cardiac side effects that have caused hundreds of deaths across the United States.

Fresenius is the largest provider of dialysis products in the United States. The company also owns many dialysis treatment centers across the nation.

It has been reported that Josh did not receive his treatment from a Fresenius dialysis center but instead he underwent hemodialysis at DaVita Coastal Kidney Center, located in Panama City, Florida. Although this center is not owned by Fresenius it still used the Fresenius-manufactured products NaturaLyte and GranuFlo, which ultimately took his life.

It was stated in the GranuFlo wrongful death lawsuit that Josh received his dialysis treatment on July 20, 2010, where he was given the GranuFlo product. However, a typical dialysis treatment went very wrong within a few hours after he returned home when he experienced a sudden heart attack. His mother, who happens to be an emergency room nurse by profession, gave him CPR in an attempt to save his life. After the paramedics arrived at their home he was taken to the closest hospital. Sadly, they were unable to save his life and he subsequently passed away on July 23, 2010.

It has been reported that before Josh’s death he did not have a history of a heart condition. He needed dialysis to treat complications caused by his childhood diabetes, but in no way had this condition affected his heart, his family says. This has been a devastating loss to his family.

Josh also marks one of the younger victims of the GranuFlo related deaths and it is another reminder of how dangerous the GranuFlo and NaturaLyte products can be for those of all ages. GranuFlo and NaturaLyte have a substantial track record for causing severe side effects that result in serious injuries and, like in Josh Evan’s case, tragic deaths.

Due to the high number of GranuFlo and NaturaLyte side effects being reported, the number of subsequent lawsuits that are being filed are on the rise as well. Like Josh Evans’ mother, they seek compensation for the injuries sustained and the losses experienced.

If you yourself have experienced a heart attack after you were given GranuFlo and/or NaturaLyte or have a family member who did, you too could be eligible to file a product liability lawsuit of your own.
