First NuvaRing Blood Clot Lawsuits to Be Heard May 2013

By John Curran

NuvaRing blood clotNuvaRing blood clot lawsuit attorneys allege that the monthly internal contraceptive has severe side effects including blood clots and strokes for female patients. A recent report from the FDA now indicates that hundreds of patients have been injured or killed as a result of NuvaRing blood clot side effects. Yet due to the slow legal process, the first set of NuvaRing blood clot lawsuits aren’t expected to begin until May 2013.

The decision was made by Federal District Court Judge Rodney Sippel, which will enable the first 1,000 or so NuvaRing lawsuit Plaintiffs to proceed with their arguments that they were seriously injured by NuvaRing side effects. There will be future dates for other NuvaRing lawsuit trials as Plaintiffs continue to file claims, however. That’s important, because legal experts are quick to point out that the FDA reports are not indicative of the total number of women who could contact NuvaRing side effect lawsuit attorneys. Not all patients think to contact the agency and the same is true for gynecologists. However, data indicates that the number of NuvaRing blood clot victims is likely to be much larger, according to a Danish study. Researchers found that the risk of blood clots and related NuvaRing side effects were nearly double that of other birth control options.

In fact, NuvaRing blood clot class action lawsuit lawyers are more likely to cite the results of a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine. They argue that NuvaRing blood clot side effects could be up to three times more likely than other women of similar ages. That is likely to increase the number of cases, which already is close to 1,000 as it stands.

While the most common NuvaRing side effect is blood clotting, there are other, more potentially serious complications that can arise. Deep vein thrombosis is clotting that can move to other parts of the body, causing heart attack or stroke. If undiagnosed, it can be potentially fatal. However, NuvaRing blood clot lawsuit lawyers also report that clients have suffered from pulmonary embolisms — a condition caused by a blood clot moving to the lung.
