Dozens of New Yasmin Side Effect Claims Filed

By John Curran

Yasmin Yaz birth controlWhile Bayer Pharmaceuticals has been settling with women who say they faced Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella blood clot side effects for quite a while now, that does not mean that new lawsuits won’t be forthcoming for a while. The company heavily marketed the oral contraceptives and millions of women have used them. That may be one reason why 22 new claims have been filed with the help of Yaz lawsuit attorneys.

The new lawsuits are unique in that unlike blood clot issues, the plaintiffs say they have needed surgeries to remove an organ thanks to gallbladder side effects. There have been numerous studies showing a link between the Yasmin line of birth control pills and gallbladder problems, with one of the most recent ones published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal. Researchers demonstrated that compared to other birth control options, the dual-hormone contraceptives had a 20 percent higher likelihood of gallbladder issues.

One problem that these women face is that while numerous studies have argued for a link between the drug and these conditions, Bayer is only settling with victims of Yaz and Yasmin blood clots. While claims are mounting regarding Ocella gallbladder side effects, the multinational pharmaceutical manufacturer may still decide to fight them. It is already on the hook for up to $2 billion or more on the clotting cases alone.

Bayer may also just be prolonging the process until profits from other drugs make it more financially feasible to settle with women who have dealt with gallbladder problems. Yaz lawsuit attorneys note that there is a medical explanation for these conditions, as the oral contraceptives can lead to higher cholesterol levels which can adversely affect the gallbladder.

Whether or not women are dealing with cholecystitis, an infection of the organ, or blood clot issues that can lead to stroke, deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolisms, they can be potentially fatal medical problems. Getting help with treatments is critical and it may be difficult to detect them early on, so women who are using these birth control options should consult regularly with their doctor and gynecologist about birth control side effects.

However, many women were unaware of these problems and are dealing with the aftermath of these side effects. They may be eligible to pursue a case against Bayer.
