Current News On Bard Avaulta Vaginal Mesh Lawsuits

By Andrea Gressman

transvaginal meshBard Avaulta, the company that makes vaginal mesh products, is being cited for negligence in a number of lawsuits across the United States. These allegations have been filed against the company for failing to meet reasonable safety standards and for failing to give adequate warnings of the risks vaginal mesh side effects.

Current Bard Avaulta vaginal mesh lawsuits claim that the device’s defective design has led to many complications and injuries to patients, including the following:

* Severe pain and discomfort
* Urinary problems and complications
* Urinary tract infections
* Eroding mesh into the vagina
* Migration of the mesh
*Shrinking of the mesh

Despite these known complications, vaginal mesh manufacturers continue to ignore FDA warnings as well as many medical experts. They still continue to make these dangerous products, which have caused thousands of women to suffer serious injuries and complications.

Big Payout for a Vaginal Mesh Lawsuit Against Bard Avaulta

A lawsuit involving Bard Avaulta’s vaginal mesh products led to a $5.5 million dollar verdict against the company. Christine Scott and her husband were awarded the settlement after the product caused Scott severe injuries. Scott has been in and out of the hospital since 2008 with vaginal mesh complications caused by her Bard Avaulta device. She has undergone at least nine surgical procedures directly resulting from the complications caused by the product. The jury panel handing the case found that Bard Avaulta negligently handled the devices used to treat pelvic organs prolapse and stress urinary incontinence, and awarded Scott and her husband millions of dollars in compensation.

MDL Lawsuit Consolidation

To date, there are four different multidistrict litigations (MDL’s) that have been created to handle the growing number of lawsuits against Bard Avaulta and other vaginal mesh manufacturers. Each of the complaints makes similar claims against the vaginal mesh products. They all state the products caused women to suffer severe complications and are seeking monetary compensation as a result.

Vaginal Mesh Injuries and Side Effects

The injuries and complications caused by vaginal mesh products can be serious and extensive. In addition to the mesh erosion into the vagina, these devices can also cause erosion into the following:

* Bladder
* Intestines
* Uterus

This erosion may cause infection, pelvic pain and urinary problems, as well as a recurrence of prolapse and/or incontinence. Additional vaginal mesh side effects include bowel, bladder and blood vessel perforation during insertion. This may require additional surgical procedures to treat these complications, as in the case of Christine Scott.

Vaginal mesh devices are designed to repair pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence. However, the products have caused many complications, resulting in thousands of lawsuits filed by women claiming serious complications resulting from the use of these products.

Despite these serious complications, many vaginal mesh products remain on the market and are being used by countless patients.
