Bladder Cancer a Side Effect of Actos Alleges Lawsuit, Opts Not to File an Actos Class Action Lawsuit

The latest Actos (piogliatzone) bladder cancer lawsuit filed was not an Actos class action lawsuit although at least one Actos class action lawsuit is pending in federal court. George Geogleris filed an Actos bladder cancer lawsuit alleging that he wasn’t warned about the risk of developing bladder cancer before taking the drug used to help treat type 2 diabetes. George started taking Actos in February of 2011. In September of the same year George was diagnosed with bladder cancer. George only took Actos for seven months, and possibly less as it’s not certain exactly when he stopped taking Actos, before developing bladder tumors and being diagnosed with cancer. George’s Actos bladder tumor lawsuit was not filed as part of the Actos multidistrict litigation (MDL) or any existing Actos bladder cancer class action lawsuit. George’s Actos lawsuit may become part of the Actos MDL in the future but for now he filed his lawsuit independently of the MDL. The Actos MDL allows thousands of Actos users to file similar lawsuits under the purview of one judge and court but each Actos plaintiff maintains individuality so their award, once the case is won or settled, is much larger than any individual award expected in an Actos bladder tumor class action lawsuit. The Actos bladder cancer MDL is similar to an Actos bladder cancer class action lawsuit but different in that one key aspect. In an Actos bladder tumor class action lawsuit thousands of Actos patients are joined together but if the Actos class action lawsuit settles they typically share the award. Everyone who joins the Actos MDL will receive any financial award individually unlike an Actos class action lawsuit. The Actos MDL settlement attorneys will determine exactly what each plaintiff will receive depending on the injury suffered. This may mean that those who file Actos wrongful death lawsuits receive more than those who successfully undergo cancer treatment but the Actos attorneys litigating the MDL will determine this as the case develops.
George’s Actos bladder cancer lawsuit states that Takeda Pharmaceuticals didn’t appropriately or adequately warn users of Actos, or their prescribing physicians, of the severe side effects of Actos which includes bladder cancer and cardiovascular problems. George’s Actos bladder cancer lawsuit states the he wouldn’t have taken Actos if he knew of the risk of developing bladder tumors and cancer.
It’s important that Actos patients are know the symptoms of bladder cancer. Bladder cancer symptoms include tumors which may cause blood in the urine, painful or frequent urination, or straining during urination. In addition, other common signs of bladder cancer include fatigue, incontinence, weight loss and bone pain or tenderness. There is no mention of whether George’s spouse (if he has one) is suing Takeda Pharmaceuticals for “loss of consortium” or acting as a co-plaintiff on the case.
