Asbestos Lawsuit Filed by Former Univ. Of Pennsylvania Employee

A former Pennsylvania University employee has filed a federal asbestos lawsuit naming 30 companies as defendants. In the asbestos lawsuit he claims that the asbestos he was exposed to while he was employed at a Pennsylvania University caused him to develop an asbestos-related disease. Although it is not specifically mentioned whether the plaintiff was diagnosed with mesothelioma or not, that is certainly a possibility as asbestos exposure has led to thousands of American’s to develop mesothelioma as a result of asbestos exposure. It is important to note that the Pennsylvania University was not named as a defendant in the asbestos lawsuit.
Asbestos Lawsuit Focuses on the Companies that Had a Hand in Producing the Asbestos Products
The asbestos lawsuit exclusively focuses on the companies that were responsible for mining, processing, manufacturing, importing, and selling the asbestos products that the plaintiff was exposes to. In the asbestos lawsuit, the plaintiff claimed that he worked from 1972 to 2010 at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. He reported that he worked in the powerhouse. It was his job to maintain the coal-fired boiler as well as the furnace. It was also stated that before the plaintiff was employed at the university that he was in the United States Navy where he served for four years. It was during this time that he was a boiler technician on three different naval ships.
The asbestos lawsuit goes on to state that during his employment at Bucknell University that the plaintiff was continually exposed to asbestos. It is the plaintiffs claim that the companies that produced the products containing asbestos did not properly provide him with any kind of protective equipment and did not provide any type of warning regarding the asbestos exposure. They also did not have an asbestos exposure safety plan and never attempted to remove the asbestos products from the working environment.
Due to these companies negligence, the plaintiff in the asbestos lawsuit claims that he was repeatedly and continuously exposed to asbestos throughout his employment history, which was for nearly 40 years.
As mentioned above, it has not been revealed as to which asbestos related diseases the plaintiff was diagnosed with. One of the most well-known asbestos diseases caused by asbestos exposure is mesothelioma. Regardless of what disease he has been diagnosed with, the plaintiff is seeking compensation for the pain, medical expenses, and lost wages that the asbestos disease has reportedly caused. The plaintiff in the asbestos lawsuit is seeking both punitive and compensatory damages for both his financial and personal loss.
