More than 3.2 Million Pradaxa Prescriptions May Mean Thousands of Hemorrhage & Internal Bleeding Lawsuits
By Scott Hardy
Boehringer Ingelheim just released that more than 3.2 million Pradaxa prescriptions have been written for more than 600,000 non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) patients in the US since Pradaxa was released in October 2010. Boehringer Ingelheim made no mention of the number of lawsuits alleging Pradaxa caused NVAF patients to suffer uncontrollable internal bleeding or hemorrhage. Boehringer Ingelheim also didn’t update the press on the status of multiple Pradaxa class action lawsuits pending in federal courts. If you are diagnosed with internal bleeding or hemorrhage you, or a family member, should contact a Pradaxa Internal Bleeding attorney immediately.
Uncontrollable internal bleeding and hemorrhage is alleged to be a common side effect of Pradaxa in multiple Pradaxa class action lawsuits and personal injury lawsuits filed across the country. Patients taking Pradaxa have filed lawsuits alleging that Pradaxa has sever undisclosed side effects which have killed users of Pradaxa. Pradaxa internal bleeding or hemorrhage lawsuits typically allege that Boehringer Ingelheim did not adequately inform patients and their prescribing doctors of the risks of uncontrollable internal bleeding and hemorrhage associated with Pradaxa usage, nor did Boehringer Ingelheim warn or otherwise advise on how to intervene and stabilize a Pradaxa patient should a bleed occur after an accident or during surgery. It’s interesting to note that Boehringer Ingelheim has stated that Pradaxa prescriptions have been written by almost 20,000 cardiologists and more than 90,000 other medical specialists or primary care physicians. Warnings of internal bleeding and hemorrhage didn’t appear on Pradaxa bottles until long after it was released and prescribed to hundreds of thousands of patients. There is no available number detailing how many physicians or cardiologists have ceased writing prescriptions for Pradaxa based on the mounting evidence the drug causes uncontrollable internal bleeding and sometimes death.
Boehringer Ingelheim recently stated “… there was a trend towards a higher incidence of major bleeding with PRADAXA for patients > 75 year of age. There were higher rates of major gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding and total GI bleeding with Pradaxa 150mg than warfarin.” Pradaxa internal bleeding lawsuits and Pradaxa class action lawsuits typically allege the only way to control internal bleeding is to flush the patient’s system of Pradaxa via dialysis which may take hours. While a patient is on dialysis they may bleed out and die or require multiple blood transfusions to hemorrhagic event. Doctors around the world have asked Boehringer Ingelheim for a solution to stem the internal bleeding or hemorrhages allegedly caused by Pradaxa but have not received one yet.Pradaxa users need to know the symptoms of internal bleeding so they can contact their doctor immediately. If you are diagnosed with internal bleeding or hemorrhage you, or a family member, should contact a Pradaxa Internal Bleeding attorney immediately.
Common internal bleeding symptoms include pink or brown urine, red or black stools, bruises that happen without a known cause and may get larger, coughing up blood or blood clots and/or vomiting blood or vomit which includes particles that look like coffee grounds. If you or a family member are taking, or were taking Pradaxa or a blood thinner or anti-coagulant medication, and experienced internal bleeding or hemorrhage you may be able to file a lawsuit to help you pay for your medical expenses, pain and suffering, and recovery. Only a qualified Pradaxa hemorrhage or internal bleeding lawsuit attorney can determine if you have a case. In addition, the spouse of a Pradaxa victim of internal bleeding or hemorrhage may be able to join the lawsuit as a co-plaintiff and sue for “loss of consortium.”
