Roundup Weed Killer Lawsuit Overview:

  • Who: A cancer patient lodged a lawsuit against Monsanto Company.
  • Why: The plaintiff claims Monsanto manufactures and sells Roundup herbicide containing active ingredients that the company knows are dangerous to humans, that left him with lymphoma.
  • Where: The lawsuit is pending in Minnesota federal court.

Monsanto Company manufactures and sells Roundup brand herbicide containing active ingredients that endanger human health, a man who wants to join multidistrict litigation (MDL) against the company alleges.

Plaintiff Raymond Rajsky claims Monsanto endangers consumers by selling Roundup containing glyphosate and surfactant POEA, which he alleges are dangerous to humans.

Rajsky claims he developed lymphoma as a direct result of exposure to Roundup marketed, manufactured, advertised, labeled, and sold by Monsanto.

Rajsky argues that Monsanto failed to properly warn consumers about the dangers of using Roundup.

“Plaintiff’s injuries, like those striking thousands of similarly situated victims across the country, were avoidable,” states the Roundup lawsuit.

Rajsky claims Monsanto had “full knowledge,” of the dangers associated with using Roundup weed killer, since the company was responsible for the design, manufacturing, and testing of the commercial herbicide.

Roundup Weed Killer Linked to Cancer

Monsanto first discovered that glyphosate could be used as a herbicide back in the 1970s and began the process of creating Roundup, according to the lawsuit.

“For nearly 40 years, farmers across the globe have used Roundup, unaware of its carcinogenic properties,” states the lawsuit.

While Roundup weed killer is registered with the Environmental Protection Agency(EPA), Rajsky argues this does not mean that the product is safe for human exposure.

“The determination the EPA makes in registering or re-registering a product is not that the product is “safe,” but rather that use of the product in accordance with its label directions ‘will not generally cause unreasonable adverse effects on the environment,’” states the Roundup lawsuit.

The EPA is currently in the process of re-evaluating all pesticide products following a Congressional mandate, according to the lawsuit.

Rajsky is demanding a jury trial and requesting equitable relief and compensatory and statutory damages.

In August, Bayer AG, the owner of Monsanto, asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review a judge’s order awarding $25 million to plaintiffs in an MDL over allegations Roundup caused cancer, fearing it would set a precedent.

Hi, I live in Nevada, and have desert landscaping. All rocks, back and front yards. I have used Round up weed killer spring and fall to get rid of the overwhelming weeds. Two years ago I was diagnosed with MPN Blood Cancer. It is very rare. Had no idea until my blood work showed my bone marrow producing over one million platelets. So I think it might be from the use of this product for over 20 years.
