Tractor Supply Co. agreed to pay $750,000 to resolve a class action lawsuit claiming that it failed to pay its hourly manual worker employees on a weekly basis.
The settlement benefits non-exempt, Tractor Supply Co. employees who were paid hourly and worked for the company in New York between June 24, 2016, and Feb. 24, 2019, and who did not work for the company beyond Feb. 24, 2019.
According to the class action lawsuit, Tractor Supply Co. violated New York labor laws by failing to pay their manual worker employees weekly. The New York State Department of Labor requires businesses to pay “manual workers” at least weekly, while only certain types of employees can be paid biweekly.
Tractor Supply Co. is a farm supply, pet, tool and outdoors retailer that markets to farmers, ranchers, homeowners, gardeners, pet owners and more.
Tractor Supply Co. hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $750,000 settlement to resolve the wage-and-hour class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive a proportional share of the net settlement fund based on the duration of their employment during the class period. Those who worked for the entire class period would receive a larger settlement share than those who worked only for a short time during the class period.
No payment estimates are available at this time, but class members will receive a minimum payment of at least $50. Class members who receive $600 or more from the settlement will have their payments reported in an IRS Form 1099.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Feb. 5, 2024.
The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Jan. 25, 2024.
In order to receive a settlement payment, class members must submit a valid claim form by Feb. 5, 2024.
