Biometric Impressions agreed to a $10.85 million settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit claiming it violated Illinois biometric laws by collecting consumer fingerprints without consent.
The settlement benefits individuals whose fingerprint was collected by Biometric Impressions between Jan. 8, 2015, and Aug. 14, 2023, and whose fingerprinting services were not paid for by the state of Illinois.
According to the class action lawsuit, Biometric Impressions collected individuals’ fingerprints without first providing the proper disclosures and obtaining written consent as required by Illinois’ Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA). BIPA requires businesses to meet strict privacy, consent and disclosure requirements before collecting biometrics such as fingerprints and facial geometry scans.Â
Biometric Impressions is an inkless live-scan fingerprinting company that operates in Illinois, Iowa and Florida.Â
The company hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but reached a $10.85 million settlement to resolve the BIPA class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the Biometric Impressions fingerprint settlement, class members can receive an equal share of the net settlement fund. Although these payments will vary depending on the number of claims filed, claimants could receive up to $1,000 from the settlement.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Jan. 8, 2024.
The final approval hearing for the fingerprint settlement is scheduled for March 5, 2024.
To receive a settlement payment, class members must submit a valid claim form by Feb. 22, 2024.

Cleveland clinic in Ohio at the Akron general locations did/does the same thing. They had a supervisor stand at these new time clocks and scan in at minimum two of our finger prints. It was not optional, and no forms were signed.
