UPDATE:

  • An appeal to the Massage Envy fees settlement was filed March 26, 2020.
  • On October 20, 2021, the 9th Circuit Court vacated the District Court’s approval of the settlement.
  • Top Class Actions will let our viewers know as soon as a revised settlement agreement is submitted to court for approval.
  • Massage Envy has agreed to pay $10 million to resolve class action claims that the spa unfairly increases monthly membership costs.

The settlement will benefit individuals who were a member of a Massage Envy Spa between Nov. 4, 2006, and June 7, 2019.

Several plaintiffs filed the Massage Envy fees class action lawsuit over allegations that the spa continuously increased the price of their membership fees without informing customers.

In June 2019, a California federal judge said that she would likely approve the $10 million settlement despite arguments that the vouchers provided by the settlement would be insufficient.

A plaintiff in another Massage Envy class action took issue with the proposed settlement, but U.S. District Judge Maxine Chesney decided to give preliminary approval to the settlement despite objections.

A website was established for the settlement a few weeks later. The website, which now hosts details and claim options for the settlement, acted as a placeholder until the full notice and voucher request forms were available.

Massage Envy has agreed to make changes to their membership fees. Additionally, Class Members can receive a voucher with a value between $10 and $50. In order to receive settlement benefits, Class Members need to submit a voucher request by Sept. 20, 2019.

The voucher amount depends on the amount Class Members paid in fee increases, as follows:

  • $10 voucher: paid $75 or less in fee increases
  • $20 voucher: paid $75.01 to $125 in fee increases
  • $30 voucher: paid $125.01 to $175 in fee increases
  • $40 voucher: paid $175.01 to $225 in fee increases
  • $50 voucher: paid $225.01 or more in fee increases

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Sept. 20, 2019. The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Nov. 1, 2019.

  1. Sheri and Don Watkins says:

My husband and I both are well over the max limit. We are still members, but have been waiting for our $50 voucher for each of us…. then we will use it and cancel.
But it hasn’t come yet for either of us.
How long will this take to receive them?

  2. Kristi C. says:

It’s been 1 year since I filed claim on this lawsuit and I never received a check. This isn’t the only class action settlement I’ve qualified for, filed a claim, and I have never received a dime from any of them.

  3. Patsy Hunter says:

I sent in my voucher last year (W6Z5QDV7). When might I expect reimbursement check? Thank you.
