Online sports betting company FanDuel has been hit with a class action lawsuit claiming it provided bettors with inaccurate scores and game times, inducing wagers based on false information.
Filed Tuesday in Illinois federal court, lead plaintiff Andrew Melnick seeks to represent more than 6 million consumers across 10 states where online sports betting is legal, including Illinois, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Indiana, Iowa, Colorado, Tennessee, Virginia, and Michigan.
Melnick, an Illinois resident, claims that he and others were duped into thinking they were placing much more advantageous bets based on the false information provided by FanDuel on its sports betting app that purports to provide “real time” information to bettors.
He says that he made an “over/under” bet in February of this year on FanDuel concerning a men’s NCAA college basketball game. Melnick says that he placed a bet based on the remaining game time information provided on FanDuel; however, he later found out that the game time information provided by the online betting company was off by up to 35 percent from the actual time.
Melnick says that after he discovered the discrepancy in game time information provided by FanDuel’s app, he attempted to get a refund by calling customer service; however, he says his request was denied.
In his class action lawsuit, he contends that the false information is no mistake. Instead, “while purporting to provide its customers with real-time, live sports game data, FanDuel regularly understates the time remaining in a given live sporting event in order to induce its customers to make wagers that they are more likely to lose, and/or that are riskier, than if they were being provided accurate, real-time information in connection with their live wagering,” says Melnick’s lawsuit.
In addition to false info about game times, the class action lawsuit contends that FanDuel provides inaccurate information about the score of the game. Class Members “have made and lost wagers that they would not have made had they known the actual time remaining in the given sporting event or, in the alternative, they would have, instead, wagered on the ‘Over’ and won that wager, rather than losing a wager placed on the ‘Under.’”
The plaintiff, who also points out that he has opted out of FanDuel’s arbitration clause, claims that he, along with hundreds of thousands of other FanDuel customers, have lost millions of dollars by placing bets based on false information provided by the app.

I was winning big last night on FanDuel it started getting late so the only games that was on was Japan and Europe league basket ball games I placed 3 big wages on the over and under on each game the games would say there in the third quarter when I place the bets but as I’m watching the scores as the games are being played in what I thought was real time the app would freeze and once it unfreezes it would jump to the 4th quarter this happen to me 3 times last night
I have placed a lot of various bets on Japan baseball games that said they were in the 7 inning when they were really in the 8th or 9th inning and was completely duped by them when they took my money the game would say finished in the 7th inning and they take my money. I go look on google and it was the 9th inning the whole time. I even had a ticket where they graded it one of my legs on my parlay wrong (said it lost when it actually won) and they ended my ticket, granted I was going to lose the ticket regardless but the game that would have made my ticket lose hadn’t even started! I had to argue with them just to get my money back. I told them I could of possibly been offered a cash out if they never did that and they said “there is no guarantee that you will be offered a cash out” so I told them “well I never got the chance to find out because you wrongly ended my ticket. I’ve lost a lot of money to the bull shit scams they pull how do I get involved in this lawsuit I feel like I’m owed money and have for a while due to Fanduel and It’s making me suffer because I feel fooled!
Ryan , I am in the same situation however I have photos to prove the line bets are being misled just exactely as you stated. FanDuel provides innings that are NOT accurate I have photos of FanDuel showing the game being I. The 6th inning and a photo of the exact game being in the 7th inning.
Just did a bet Sunday in tennis and the scores given helped motivate me to make multiple bets thinking the person I was betting on was dominating. In reality the scores were completely flipped and the person I was betting on was getting killed. I reached out to FanDuel about providing complete false information and they gave me that third party crap. I simply wanted a return of funds. But as I tried to debate with the customer service he ended the session.
The numbers were 100% not even close to the actual scores. How can a betting site offer information that is complete false in order to get you to bet and claim they aren’t at fault.
Is that suit still going?
I did a Tennis bet on the second set winner during the first set. The match end shortly after so I was confused even on my bet slip it showed 6-1 on the first set and 0-0 on the second and ended. But fanduel sends me the actual score for the second and third set which was a total of 59 mins long. So they had it delayed by an hour causing me to make a bet that made no sense if I knew the actual score. The match ended for me in the beginning of the second set that delay is ridiculous. I now realize I’ve been cheated out of thousands and they can’t even honor the truth. This is criminal scamming. So I looked up on the internet because I knew I wasn’t the only person going through this.
I observed 2 incidents last couple days where FanDuel posted odds changes without displaying the true scores of the contests. It’s an obvious ploy to entice bets on false information. In one case they had the losing team ahead of the team who was actually winning.
I have been scammed out of all these and more. I have proof of all these wrong doings and had funds held without any restrictions the first week of May 2023. They and the state continue to ignore me and anything I present that backs up my complaints (They believe I won’t reach out for help to anyone that can actually hit their pockets). Im confident with the amount of times I’ve been scammed and evidence I’ve kept along with conversations showing their neglect an attorney would have all they need to benefit everyone and myself who’ve been wronged by online sports book and casinos
My FanDuel account has been hacked and used in 3 separate state’s some I’ve never been in.
Is this lawsuit against fanduel still in progress?
I hope so cuz they did same to me and suspended my account when I won the 200 bonus bet said I had a gambling problem. I deposited 10 and only bet a dollar each time and made less than 10 bets hahahaha they suck

With the salary you cant pick this winning lineup Fanduel is cheating me
Same thing happened to me scores were not matching up and odds were to good to be true
It’s bullshit when u think plays are accurate and then you see it’s showing plays 2 innings ago. Also had games automatically no longer live just as I’m about to cash out with large winning. Customer service tells me the point of wagering is not to cash out. I pointed out that is exactly the point to early cash out. It’s in your site.
Then customer service tries to point out their rules about scores. My problem wasn’t with your score that was right. It’s the plays being displayed and claiming it’s the current inning.
The live scoring data on our site is supplied to us by a third party stats provider and we find (with sports such as college basketball) that at times there may be delays on this live scoring given the lack of on-site accurate statistics provided by our stat providers.
According to our Terms of Use Part C section 1.3, “When scores are displayed in running, every effort is made to ensure the accuracy of the score and game time; however, no liability is accepted for incorrect information displayed.”
I see the same. I always check the real time stats as I place the bet. You can actually take advantage of it. My issue is, they always freeze me or can’t verify my location when I’m winning.
Can’t see how you can take advantage of it. The odds changes reflect the real game situations. It’s just the scores shown that are false.
