UnumUnum Life Insurance Company of America is facing a new claim denial lawsuit after denying a woman’s claim for disability insurance.

A Wisconsin woman alleges that the insurance company wrongfully denied her claim for disability, even though she met all requirements to receive benefits.

Plaintiff Vera P. filed for long term disability benefits after becoming unable to work due to her severe disabilities.

Until March 2003, Vera was fully employed with Josten’s Diploma and would have been provided long term disability coverage should it be needed.

Unum had been the insurance company the company used as an insurance provider for their employees, and is solely responsible for determining the eligibility of Vera’s claim for disability insurance.

Overview of Claim Denial Lawsuit

According to her claim denial lawsuit, Vera became disabled due to certain problems that made her unable to perform her occupational duties. In addition, Vera has been unable to work to earn sufficient income and will be unable to work in a similar occupation.

This means that Vera is relying on her disability benefits to live as well as paying for her medical expenses.

When filing her claim for disability insurance, Vera reportedly followed all administrative procedures and filed all necessary medical documentation as evidence to support her claim.

Even though she submitted all necessary documentation that showed she met all requirements to be eligible for long term disability benefits, Unum still denied her claim for disability insurance.

According to her claim denial lawsuit, Unum unfairly processed her claim and did not give adequate reason for its dismissal.

Furthermore, Vera states Unum denied her claim based on insufficient or false evidence that would have left her ineligible for longer term disability benefits.

At this point in time, Vera has exhausted all administrative options and has been forced to resort to legal action to claim her long term disability benefits.

Unum Life Insurance Company of America is the largest disability insurance provided in America, providing insurance to millions in Americans. However this insurance company has been accused of improperly denying insurance claims for their own financial interests.

Vera is filing this claim denial lawsuit against Unum for failing in its duty to properly review her claim for disability benefits. She is seeking damages for all missed payments, legal costs and any other applicable damages.

The Unum Claim Denial Lawsuit is Case No. 6:16-cv-02609-MGL, in the U.S. District Court of South Carolina, Greenville Division.
