Volkswagen rearview camera recall overview:

  • Who: Volkswagen is recalling several models of its Tiguan, Arteon and Audi Q3 vehicles.
  • Why: The vehicles may have a defect that prevents the rearview camera image from displaying while reversing, which increases the risk of a crash.
  • Where: The Volkswagen recall is active in the United States.

Volkswagen is recalling several models of its Tiguan, Arteon and Audi Q3 vehicles due to a defect impacting the rearview camera display.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration published the recall to its website on Feb. 12. It applies to 29,569 vehicles, including certain model year 2022-2024 Tiguans, 2023 Arteons and 2024-2025 Audi Q3s.

According to the rearview camera recall, an error can occur in the camera control unit when the vehicle starts, which results in the rearview camera image “not displaying as intended.”

“A rearview camera image that is not available when reversing may impair the driver’s ability to see areas to the rear of the vehicle,” the recall says. “This can increase the risk of a crash.”

VW offers free fix for drivers, recall says

No one has been injured due to the defective rearview camera so far. Volkswagen is not currently facing legal action, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they can sometimes result in lawsuits.

To fix the issue, dealers will update the camera control unit software, free of charge, Volkswagen says. The automaker will mail notification letters to owners by April 11, 2025, the recall says.

Volkswagen issued a trio of recalls late last year over concerns involving defective Takata-brand airbag inflators, door handles and front passenger airbags.

We have a 2024 Tiguan SEL R-line , our dealer ( Hawk Volkswagen in Joliet, IL. ) Is telling us there is no fix for this problem yet???

  2. Morgan Post says:

My 2025 Jetta SE had this issue and so many other severely defective problems related to electrical updates or software and sensors not reacting properly. I was driving into oncoming traffic so many times because my car thought i was outside of my lane. Then a week later, someone rear ended me, then I hit the person in front of me. It was a hard impact. I have to do PT from an already existing spinal cord issue because the accident tweaked it again. VW and The insurance company had my new Jetta in the Lithia body and paint shop in The Des Moines, IA area for 32 days. The card hadn’t been touched. I ended up having no choice to get another car because they refused to do safety software checks and recalibrations. If this isn’t already a suit somewhere for the 2025s, I have a feeling it will be.

VW Jetta needs to be on here! My Jetta rearview camera acts up sometimes and I’ve taken it to the dealership over the issue.
