A concerned pet owner recently filed a class action lawsuit against the maker of Taste of the Wild dog food claiming that the products are contaminated with heavy metals, pesticides, and other harmful chemicals.

Plaintiff Martin Grossman is suing defendant Diamond Pet Foods Inc. over allegations that the company’s Taste of the Wild products are contaminated with harmful chemicals including pesticides.

Diamond Pet Foods manufactures and distributes Taste of the Wild products, marketing the dog food as formulated “based on your pet’s ancestral diet.”

The company further supports the quality of their products by stating: “Every ingredient is carefully selected from trusted sources, each recipe is designed by our veterinarians and nutritionists to meet specific nutritional requirements and every product is tested for quality and safety before leaving our facilities.”

Despite claims of natural ingredients and high quality nutrition, Taste of the Wild dog food may not be as incredible as marketing suggests. Grossman alleges that Diamond Pet Food products contain a series of undesirable contaminates which can cause harm to animals.

Through testing of Taste of the Wild, Grossman says he discovered the dog food contains heavy metals including arsenic, lead, mercury, and cadmium, as well as pesticides, acrylamide, and BPA.

These contaminates can allegedly build up in an animal’s body and cause toxicity, leading to adverse health conditions. Health conditions reported in relation to pet food contaminates include lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, gastrointestinal damage, nerve damage, neurological side effects, seizures, heart problems, cancers, and in some cases death.

In his Diamond Pet Food class action, Grossman alleges that the manufacturer knew about the contaminates in their Taste of the Wild pet foods, but chose to mislead consumers in an attempt to increase their profits. The Taste of the Wild manufacturer allegedly acknowledges and aims to capitalize on the trend of pet owners prioritizing natural, nutritious ingredients in their pet food.

“Defendants know that certain consumers seek out and wish to purchase premium pet foods that possess high quality ingredients and do not contain chemicals or contaminants, and that these consumers will pay more for pet foods that they believe possess these qualities than for pet foods that they do not believe possess these qualities,” the Taste of the Wild dog food class action claims.

Grossman seeks to represent a Class of consumers who have purchased contaminated Taste of the Wild dog food since May 1, 2013. The Diamond Pet Food class action seeks restitution, disgorgement, statutory damages, punitive damages, court costs, and attorneys’ fees.

Plaintiffs are represented by Robert K. Shelquist and Rebecca A. Peterson of Lockridge Grindal Nauen PLLP; Joseph DePalma, Steven J. Greenfogel, and Susana Cruz-Hodge of Lite DePalma Greenberg LLC; Daniel E. Gustafson, Karla M. Gluek and Raina C. Borrelli of Gustafson Gluek PLLC; Kevin A. Seely and Steven M. McKany of Robbins Arroyo LLP; and Charles Laduca and Kathrine Van Dyck of Cuneo Gilbert & Laduca LLP.

The Taste of the Wild Contaminated Pet Food Class Action Lawsuit is Grossman v. Shell & Kampeter Inc. d/b/a Diamond Pet Foods, Case No. 2:18-cv-02344-JAM-AC, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California.

I have 2 boxer females, 5 and 11, been feeding them TOW for at least 8 years and they have vommited repetitively probably at least 10 times a month…I figured they were outside eating horse manure or something. My younger female is always eating grass…that REALLY makes me angry! No wonder they are a bit cheaper than their competitors. I would like to know if its too late to get in on this lawsuit because if it is I will be filing a seperate one Immediately! Please ADVISE…Thank You!!!

I have been feeding my present dog with TOTW kibble since he moved in. He is now 4 years and has never been ill. My previous dog ate TOTW his whole life (16 yrs) and I didn’t have to take him to the vet once (except for vaccines and once to suture some wounds he got when attacked by another dog). My first dog ate TOTW for the last 7 years of his life (he lived to be 14 yrs) and was healthy his whole life, too.

All dogs have at times vomited “yellow foam”, but mostly when stressed.

I am just devistated reading about this class action suit now and all the comments to to follow. The thought of us feeding our Great Dane this toxic food since he was 10 weeks old until his VERY young death caused by DCM at 2 years and 7 months old, just tears me apart. Hendrix had symptoms of morning yellow bile foam maybe twice a week, Allergies, his feet would get 3 times enlarged than normal and diarrhea almost every evening! The Vet said that his wall cavity thinned and fluid surrounded his heart. It was heartbreaking to lose such a young, beautiful faithful member of our family so early. Please add me to this class action lawsuit!

I’ve been feeding my Blue Heeler Taste of the Wild for 5 years now. I’m just now seeing and reading about this. How do I include myself in this Law Suit?

We immediately stopped feeding this to our shepherd when I reached into a currently used bag and the bottom was full of sludge, now I knew why she was reluctantly eating. We always kept it well stored and this was the first time this ever happened. I put her on a healthy home cooked diet and she was doing beautifully well until we had her numbers checked and found her metals were through the roof. Ultimately she died of a tumor, who knows, it was only about a year from the time I stopped the food.

I just started feeding this to all three of my dogs. 7yrs. German Shepard, 2 yrs morkie, 5 months golden doodle (puppy food). Yes I buy 2 types. It’s been 4 months, and they slowly started acting weird. Puppy vomits all the time, this morning vomiting yellow foam. The 7yr old. is showing signs of kidney failure, the gas is unbelievable! 2 yr old vomits and all 3 act if they are like 15 years old. They walk slow and look like they hurt.

I researched this food right now because they were all healthy and now declining at same time. Only thing in common is this food!!

I’m so sick that I took the stores advice to buy this. My poor babies!!! I’m scheduling vet appt now. I hope I’m not to late.

These are like my children. Why would this even be sold?

Two Pups Rottweiler F: 15mths and Braque St Germain:M 3years both been puking like foam around here in New Mexico doesn’t matter to people if a dog is sick over dog food or anything else, they don’t investigate the dog food. Both on Crown Royal puked blood, and foam as puppies, reported it to food recall, sent dog food as asked never received confirmation or contact, so changed to TOW, High Prairie, always sick now on Purina Pro puppy. So we will see. Thank you Donna
